you might be better off with some mobile broadband - there was a deal the other day for a years worth for around £70 with a free dongle.

i'm not in sunderland but i am nearby and pay a canny bit for broadband cos new estate so doesn't have LLU which tends to chop the price down.

i know theres an organisation called "digital sunderland" or something like that - may be worth getting in touch with them and see if they have suggestions??

O2 are currently doing a deal with the first two months free when you signup and as a non O2 customer you will pay £12.50 per month for the standard package.

Via Quidco you can get £75 cashback for the standard package meaning it will cost you about £50 for the first year.

Go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/mapping/mapping.php and fire in your postcode. Click on the street and enter your house number. It will display a result on the right hand side saying "ADSL services are available". This will give a dropdown box showing who can provide broadband for you.

Come back here and tell us who can provide to your house.

Those are only the LLU providers, the BT Wholesale ADSL Max box covers 95% of ISPs.

As for the cheapest you should be able to find somebody doing £10 a month or less.

It may cover 95% of the ISPS, but you are never guaranteed good quality. Look at the state of O2 Access.

One bad package means nothing, some of the highest rated ISPs like Zen internet use it and I've certainly had no problems on it.

Besides, Disco is looking for a cheap package not a high quality one and for his light use isn't going to be affected by any throttling or limits so even if it is poor for some people it's not really relevant is it?
