i went on e-bay and done a search by distance for people selling iphone 3g s brand new and just sent them offers by private message then i went locally and collected mine paid £390 brand new and sealed although that was 4 months ago also if you make an offer, point out to them that if they sell to you and end the auction they won't have to pay all the expensive e-bay charges, hope this helps:thumbsup:

Against eBay terms of service. eBay encourages sellers to report this activity, some will. Could easily end up with a suspended/banned account for this because you're basically denying eBay huge profits for a ~£400 transaction.

That is against ebay's policy but offering £x as a buy it now and completing the transaction via ebay is a good way forward and wont get you suspended..... plus you then get ebay's protection though this is ofcourse harder.

But emailing sellers with an offer of just below my max, meant i got an iphone 3gs for 320 like last week

So it can be done!

Whats stopping the person who sold you the phone, reporting it as stolen (for them to claim on their insurance) then resulting in a blocked phone! Yeah you save some money buying privately/second hand but be careful...
If you do it this way, have them sign a reciept stating the phone was bought in good faith, and try arrange it so that this is done at their place.

or deal via ebay and pay using a credit or visa card so you're covered for the first 45 days and lets face it, if someone is going to report it stolen, they won't wait a month and a half!
And if they do, you can do a chargeback via credit card or visa.
its the safest way......

EDIT:
Besides, a written note will surely count for sod all?! it could after all be a forgery so most people won't even look at it.......
Best case is if they have their original sales/upgrade receipt and willing to hand it over along with the iphone.
