Hi,

I'm looking to buy my GF a netbook. It's main purpose will be to browse the net and occasionally do some work processing. I'm looking for a netbook as it would probably be handy for carrying around in her handbags to work/courses etc.

I've been looking at the following 3 and would appreciate some help in choosing:

Toshiba NB100 - £297inc VAT from Staples
- Intel Atom Processor N270
- 1GB
- 120GB HDD
- Windows XP home

Dell Mini 9 - £342 from Dixons
- Intel Atom Processor N270
- 1GB
- 8GB Flash Memory
- Windows XP home

Samsung NC10 - £318 from Dixons
- Intel Atom Processor N270
- 1GB
- 160GB HDD
- Windows XP home

http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0435611903.1229415261@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccadefmhdfimdcflgceggdhhmdfhj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=339569&category_oid=

I would greatly appreciate any help (especially voucher codes etc.) or experience's good/bad anyone has had with any opf these netbooks.

Thanks

Samsung NC10 10.2-inch Netbook - Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD is the best I've used so far the 10" screen and full keyboard make this net book
The Inspiron Mini 9 comes a close 2nd. but only a 9" screen and compressed keyboard right shift key is a pain if you have fat fingers like me.

Good luck

If your not limited to a budget then I would recommend the Samsung NC10 Netbook - has great reviews all over and is a good runner, only concern is would you be able to get it in time but also will it be in stock as they are being snapped up all over the place just now.

IF you do have a budget then I would recommend you consider the Acer Aspire One Netbook - there are several threads on this website but the best one was Amazon UK advertising the Linux model (1GB of Ram & 120GB Hard Disk) going for £199.99p, with free delivery (you'd probably want to go for a next day delivery to make sure you get it).

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Would also recommend you stay away from Dixons as they have a terrible service - if you want to purchase the Dell Mini 9 then take a look at the Tesco Direct website, as they were being advertised for £249.99p the last time I looked.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Cheers for the comments guys - My only concern with the Linux OS would be that my Girlfriend *may* want to install other applications etc for her course work, and I wouldn't want to have to mess around with emulators as my knowledge of Linux is pretty limited.

I'll need to have a look for the Windos OS on the Acer but I'm guessing it will cost ~£70 more. Would this still be in the running c/w the others at that price?

I should really go out and compare them at a shop, you can't beat picking something up and shaking it!!

Staples don't have the NC10 advertised on their website? But I have one quite local so I will pop in tonight after my work. Thanks for the info!

Indeed. They no longer have them on their website, but are still selling instore. Unfortunately my local was out of stock but managed to get one in.

Yeah I phoned my local store just to check - She said there were a few in @ £294, but she only saw black... would've preffered a white one, but I'll pop in and see anyway, it's only 2min away.

Cheers for the info!

Argh... got there and they never even had any in stock after phoning this morning!

They say they'll have some more delivered on thursday though no white ones (which I had wanted)

Is it worth waiting until then or do you reckon paying the extra £25 for a guarantee of getting it on thursday from amazon would be better?
