My sons school asked him to arrange his own work experience in year 11 last year, so I sympathise as its not as easy as it was even a few years ago. I'm not local to you so can't recommend companies myself, but I would start by asking your parents, family and friends parents if any of them work in the type of company you are looking for. At the same time have a look at the government apprentice vacancies, as this will give you a list of all the companies taking on young people and they may be more open to taking on work experience placements too. Approach as many as you can, because unfortunately lots won't respond , however a well written email is probably your best initial approach. Good luck with your search.

The NHS can be quite receptive to work experience placements, try contacting the HR department of your local NHS trust.

More respect than for those that sign up for discount codes.

Have you tried computer repair shops?
Enough of them around that one should be open to a weeks free labour :p

You could try your local council. You could also look in the yellow pages and search online for companies that specialize in the area you are interested in. like these
Places you may not think of like banks HSBC work experience, telephone and energy companies have computer departments and may offer work experience that may suit you.
As you are in Manchester you may find the following link useful as it gives details on how to apply for work experience at Manchester City Council.
Work Experience application Manchester City Council
This site may help with general ideas on finding a work placement.
Good luck with finding a good placement. My son is doing the same but he has been lucky as a family member works in the area he wants so he has had it easy :)

This is going to sound a bit silly but try your local collage. I went on work experience while I was at collage to IT experance at another collage. I actully ended up with a paid job there after for a few months.
