I've having problems with my computer lately where everything would just lock up, video, music the mouse and then after 30 seconds to 2 mins, would carry on as normal. I've scanned my ram, no errors, no viruses or spyware, so I'm not sure where to look... I have noticed when it does all stop, chrome is waiting on cache but no pages load...

I've downloaded a program to see my HDD health but tbh I have no idea if the readings are good or bad, could anyone help here?

nothing that's enabled anymore.. :(

does the screen go black just before resuming back to usual? I've had lots of PCs with the wrong graphics drivers loaded that have similar lock ups but the screen would go black just before resuming. If that's the case, download the latest driver from the manufacturer site, not windows updates
Or, turning off Windows Aero also helped

Graphics card drives are all up to date. Currently running MSI 390X. No black screens or blue screens... very bizarre. I'm quite techy but even this has me confused.

Running out of memory possibly? It doesn't usually lock up to that extent if the swap file is on the SSD though. It's worth checking how much you're using when this happens.

still have 34gb left on the SSD. Around 250GB on drive 1 and another 400gb free on drive 2. Ram I'm using maybe 3gb out of 16gb.

Looks like something is crashing your video card. How long has it been happening? can just do a restore from before it started perhaps.

Possibly since the last driver update... can't think of anything else I've changed, but then why would my browsers stop loading as if the net has disconnected.

Almost anything stops Chrome working it's **** on doing anything but it's main task of collecting data for Google to sell on.

Silly question, have you checked the system logs?

Open Resource Monitor and leave it open on the Disk tab. Next time it locks up check "Highest Active Time" to see if it hit 100%
Fingers crossed it doesn't :)

Did you find the system logs Peskybunny?

Maybe a Hardware problem, Faulty on/off switch or a M/B fault, these are not logged.

Few questions, have you a monitor for your fans and cpu etc to monitor those?
What program did you use to scan your ram as you mention?,

Fan speeds, temps in windows and bios are perfect.

Used memtest for the ram.. just had my first blue screen error.. something about intel rapid storage.

Hopefully it's just microsoft replaced intels drivers and it's easy enough to reinstall them.

Remove ram and put back. If there is bad connection or ram Is broken pc freezes and only restating will fix. I had that once.

Just posted this on another question as I had a similar thing myself. Is it Win 10 with the anniversary update? If so they did something to the MS AHCI driver which causes issues with SSDs. My solution was to download the Intel driver software for my motherboard which replaced the MS driver and all was well after that (edit: I think I downloaded the Intel Rapid storage drivers for my chipset).

Have you had a look through event viewer, to see if the times correlate to any errors or particular events occurring?

From the behaviour I would check

CPU Overuse (do the fans whirr louder when this freeze happens?)

RAM (as several people have advised, disconnected and reseat it)

Any particular set of circumstances making it occur? (I.e. particular application or process running)
