I'm thinking of using Churchill for it and paying upfront once a year as i heard that's cheaper then monthly, but the main sticking point is how much do i say my stuff is worth?

According to moneysupermarket Churchill is 60 pounds a year

Most of what i have is video games i have no idea what they are worth or even what i paid for em. Also this place was unfurnished but the white goods were included so do i consider them or is that on the landlords insurance.

Remember all your clothes, they really add up!

If you live alone, in rented accommodation, in a smallish place, probably around £20k should cover it.

IME no receipts, no photos and no valuation certificates, expect to get very little in the way of compo!

White goods are not buildings, so they are contents.

Landlord's stuff should be on landlord's insurance. You need to insure for the replacement cost of your possessions which, for most things, is likely to be the original cost. Most insurers have a minimum amount they will insure so, unless you have a lot of valuable electronic equipment, that would probably be enough.

The cost of home insurance varies greatly depending on where you live and which company you go to so it is likely to be worth doing a few comparisons. I recall you saying you lived somewhere in West London so I doubt you'll get insurance for £60 a year!

I deal with both car and home insurance and contents only insurance will cost very little. Especially as from the sounds of it you've never had any so you've never made a claim.

As for the overall amount you're best to over estimate as it will literally be pennies in difference in anything below £30,000. Think of all your items at new prices when you bought them (clothes, dinnerware, games, bed, mattress, sofa, fridge, freezer etc etc). You only need to note items above 1k separately and even if you don't note them they will be covered up to 1k. No receipts needed unless really high values.

The landlord will cover building, fixtures and fittings you cover the rest.

Yeah I didn't read that white goods were in there, I just read unfurnished. Same goes for carpets, curtains etc (unless bought and owned by the tenant). Also if you've bought laminate flooring yourself you need to declare as contents but only when renting.

Yes thats right I've never lived alone before, I'd probably guess around 25k

Are they any good upto date compassion sites other then moneysupermarket that you could recommend?

Churchill charge a huge 'admin' fee when you leave as well as huge price hikes every year

Insurance companies can only charge an administration fee if you change or cancel a current policy. Most policies are for 12 months. When you get a renewal quote in 11 months you don't need to accept it and you can refuse to renew with no cost to you.

Oh right thank you did seem like a huge rip off
have asked on here as well as reading up on it
just checked they didn't charge me went for Endsleigh last year the Quidco making the year free
