Lokking for the best deal and a little advice, the range is confusing and I cannot find a comparison chart that compares all the cards.

I want the best quality for the least money (of course :-) )
I want a digital out, no problem to but the extra cable creative sell, mainly for listening to music via my Sony STR-DG700 amp, so not really bothered about the card ability to decode as long as it can pass throught to my amp via a digital out.

The cheapest I have seen is the X-fi Extreme audio (oem) from ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/121761/rb/27523290496http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/121761/rb/27523290496
but it is not clear if digital out is included or is this a very basic cut down version of the card.

I have also see the X-fi Extreme music (oem) from ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/112512/rb/27523290496http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/112512/rb/27523290496
this also has the ability to connect the live drive type thingy, which I am not bothered about but the board design is very different from the audio version.

Now I am confused and I need one for my forthcoming Dell (thanks to Mike T for the great deal)

Please Help!

Hi
I would have to say I am very confused with the x-fi xtreme music, audio and gaming too.
Does it include a remote?
Does it include a front panel, which includes all kinds of connection, ie optical, coaxial?

Regards

After having spent the morning reading up on these I seem to be not an awful lot further on,

I will be using the card on a new dell system with vista premium and E4300 processor (I think this is 64bit), I am not getting a good vibe from what I am reading about the X-fi and Vista, any one got experience of this ?

Thanks

As i read from several sources, including creative official forum
it says that in Vista, direct sound is disabled, that's why in some games which require direct sound, the sound does not function properly
however according to creative, they said they have made something called ''alchemy'' which apparently solve this problem
Is there anyone who own one of the sound card, and running vista while having this problem?
And can anyone kindly point out which of them have a optical connectiono
thanks

Not really much going for creative in vista at the moment - i have x-fi oem, there are drivers but it is very basic as had been said. Have you seen the trust soundcard at ebuyer for £15 (qf 85533) - it has optical connections, may be worth a look. Add another £15 worth of stuff and order via google-checkout for the tenner off!

saw the trust card, seems to be a cople of years old, reviews from '05, cant get any really definitive info, have been googling all day (sad i know), a brand called Terratec seem to get good reviews and the optical header is on the card, so no need to buy a special cable, still looking tho .............:-(

I have bought a cheap n cheerful card off ebay based on the C-Media 8738 / 8768 chipset, has 7.1 and optical output and only requires one slot unlike the trust 5.1 card, cost me around £15 including delivery and this website has open source drivers that do what i want http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/home

feedback and reports on x-fi and its vista drivers/ performance put me right off, not to mention if i want to connect a standard optical or co-ax cable to it, I have to buy an adapter from creative for around £20 inc. delivery
