Still seem to be unable to post in Ask, so asking here:
Bought an Asus Transformer from Currys about a year ago which has stopped charging (charger works ok to charge my phone). Took it in to Currys and they showed me that the metal around the charging port was a bit bent which suggested that I'd used it with the charger plugged in and the lead pulling at an angle (which indeed I probably had) and were able to get it to charge by propping up the charger plug with a biro. Said they could return it to Asus or I could myself, but said if they did they'd have to report their "findings" and I might have more chance of Asus accepting it as a warranty repair if I returned it myself.
Haven't contacted Asus yet and as it's approaching the end of the 12 warranty Currys have sent me an invitation to take out a Care Plan extended warranty. I'd normally avoid extended warranties like the plague, but as it covers "mishaps" (they seem to carefully avoid the word "accidents") I'm wondering whether it would be more likely to be repaired under a Care Plan than under Asus warranty - or would they exclude the charging fault as due to misuse rather than mishap? And if I am to take out a Care Plan is it better not to first send it to Asus for a warranty repair in case they flag it as misuse and report it as such to Currys if Currys later return it to them for a repair through Care Plan?
