I've used disklabs in the past. they charge £345 for recovery of hard drives with mechanical failure. not sure if that includes cost of new hard drive to put data on. Does any-one know any cheaper? or does that seem about right?

I don't know of any repairers but i do know that if you put the drive in the freezer for an hour it sometimes works for 5 minutes when u reconnect it, long enough to get some data from it!

As Spider-Pig said freeze it up it works fine and cost you only time.....I would freeze the hardrive then add it as a slave/secondary hardrive you prob get about 10 - 30 mins of data migration time from do the freeze method.

Put the hardrive in a re-sealable polythene bag place in hardrive for about 4hours see how long you get out of it. Keep doing this untill you have all or most of you data.

If you have a external hd usb encloser, I would place it in that instead. Just have the OS fully loaded and ready to transfer data to new location.
