If you want a lot builders merchants 1 ton bags works out a lot cheaper...think Wilkos do them online as well

The range was good three bags for £10

depends how much area you are covering. DIY stores are very expensive compared to proper builders merchants

I needed half a ton just for 5 square metres. Cost me about £100 and would have cost about £300 from B&Q etc

wickes do 850kg of gravel for £40

I bought 5 bags of 20kgs (£20) of plum slate chippings from a garden centre. It clearly wasn't enough so ordered a tonne (£89 delivered) and it's still not quite enough.
My advice is to over order big time and if buying plum slate, don't worry if it looks blue when you put it down as it turns plum colour after a couple of rainy days (dusty I guess).
I got the slate delivered from here.
