Dell Laptop with good graphics

My next door neighbour is after a good laptop to play films on when he is away offshore, max screen size would be 15.4 and he really wants it to watch films etc so quite a bit of HD would be good.

Would the Vostro 1000 from Dell be good enough or would a better one be better?

Iv told him about my dell one and he seems really happy about getting one from there, he has around £500 to play with

how about this. It will be able to cope with films and has a good size hard drive and a very good brand, far better than dell imo http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3435178/Sony-Vaio-VGN-N38E-W-Dual-Core-T2130-1-86GHz-1GB-120GB-15-4-DVD-SM-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook/Product.html

The Graphics in the vostro isnt that good.

I lag on shockwave games.. But its not for gaming so ya.

I spent twenty minutes between this window and an MSN chat writing a post, and ****ing IE7 swallowed it. Grr. Angryface.

The gist of what I said before, then: Yeah, go for it, buy the £380 one (worth it as it has double the CPU power, memory, and disk space), upgrade it to the biggest battery, do it by phone and haggle for freebies and a discount (and if they're stubborn, hang up and try again with someone else).

The system will handle DVDs nicely, especially with its wide screen. I can't assure you that it'll do HD movies perfectly as the graphics chip is a bit weak, but the CPU should be more than powerful enough to cope. It won't be much good for flashy 3D games though, but he'd probably be looking at sinking a couple more hundred into a system with a half-decent graphics chip for gaming, which I guess mightn't be worth doing.

Aye, the Vostro 1000. There's three different versions of it on the page, but the third one along (£300 before VAT and shipping) is the one to go for. The one with this under it:

VostroTM 1000
Faster Processor with 2 GB Memory & 120GB Storage for Increased Productivity

Oh, and an extra buying tip in just a minute, check your PMs.

Have a look at this thread http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94466&page=7&highlight=laptop which works out at £433 with all discounts. Better value for money in my opinion and Dell are suffering terrible delays at the moment.

yeh thats the one we got from the Vistro thread that was on here that got a good percentage

thanks dxx
