Personally, I'd prefer the Dell with its Pentium M processor and the Acer's battery run time is only 1:30 hours. The Dell's is up to 4 hours if you buy the 6 cell battery [select it during configuration]. Choose the lowest collect and return option for the best price and buy through QuidCo.Com to earn 6% in cashback [worth around £20]
rayman is right, power/battery Intel wins hands down.

Bear in mind though that a new duo cpu, merom, is out next month so chances are the budget dell 1300 range will get current duo cpu, yonah, so might be worth waiting if your're not in a rush.
Yeah, if you can wait until next Thursday, MikeT will have all the best updated deals from Dell :)

Thanks for the extra info on the CPU possibilities schizoboy!
I've got an Acer Aspire 3000

512mb/AMD Sempron 3000+/60gb/15.4" wide screen.

I only use it for Microsoft office, Itunes and surfing the web which it's perfect for. As previously mentioned the battery life is only just over an hour but I only use my laptop around the house.

One great benefit of buying an Acer is you can get a 3 year warrenty for approximately £60. This includes accidental damage like dropping it or spilling stuff on it: -

Thanks for the extra info on Acer's Greg :)[SIZE=2]
