Agreed, just got one of these for my Step son going off to Uni, however, if you're not fussed by the monitor size then stick with the 19" it's more than adequate and means it's only £330 so you can either upgrade the processor, or use the £70 spare on something else (software, printer etc)

Hi, thanks for this. Just gone through this. few questions.
What is the video card? It has one included - didnt give me an option. Is this anything to worry about?
And do i need speakers?
And do i need a modem if internet currently done through ethernet cable?
Does works 8.0 have microsoft word?

Thanks so much!
#4
not sure about the other questions but yes microsoft works does have word
and you don't need speakers but if your dad wants to listen to music or watch videos then i would buy some

loulou, The video card is a fairly bog standard affair, it'll be fine for non-gaming applications, you do need one, as it is what the computer uses to send pictures to the monitor!

It doesn't come with speakers, so if you want some, then but some - I think they are available as an option, or you could buy some from any other retailer.

If you have Broadband, then you don't need a modem, if you are still on dialup then you do!

Works 8.0 has a word processor, but it isn't word. You could either download OpenOffice which is a microsoft office compatible free alternative, or if you have anybody in the family connected in some way with education (schoolkids, uni, teachers etc) then you can but the Student and Teacher version of Microsoft Office for about £80-ish

Hope this helps!

Are you sure about that, I'm sure it's not acually Word, maybe you get that with Works Suite. Although the word processor that it does come with is Word compatible.

You can add a much better video card for £30 or £40 extra and it's usually worth it.

If you aim to spend about £450.00 you would get a fantastic pc. I have 2 dells and am very happy with them both too. You should get at least 1 year cover on the pc's though 2 if you can as it gives you peace of mind.

I have found Dell to be great to deal with but I am a business customer so maybe they are a little friendlier to business owners?

Is this a good price - and will it have an ethernet port?
Sorry to be a pain!

It's not a bad deal. I would add next day cover though because it's worth it.

They all have ethernet ports as far as I know. Just no 56k modem as standard.

I would be tempted at that but if you can afford to add a couple of extras it would make a difference to such a system I think. Do you get the two hardrives? Both of my Dells have two hard drives and it's great for backing up data. I think that comes almost as standard now?

Makes me wonder how much I could get it for as a business! Nevermind I am happy (for now)

It definitely has an ethernet port!

And yes, it is an excellent price, you'd be hard pushed to buy the components and build it yourself for less than £400

Same here!

I swear by them. I even have my own irish/indian fellow who I can call direct at anytime due to being a business customer. It's fantastic for any problems I might have with the PC.
