As always it depends on what you want it for, and also if you needed a laptop rather than a desktop.

Note that neither of the reviews listed above actually review your particular model.

Yours is an E5-523 but the two models listed for review are the E5-521 and the E5-573.

So you are not getting an exact like for like review.

This is one of the problems with laptops, most companies issue a whole range of laptops under the same brand (in this case ASUS E5) however within that brand they can have different CPUs, different amount of memory, different graphics card, different hard disks etc.

So the two laptops above (E5-521 and E5-573) have different components to yours.

Why do you ask the question, are you unhappy with it?

If not then accept you have bought it any move on. You could spend hours or days wondering if this laptop or that laptop is better. Or if you had waited 3 months or 6 months you could have got a better deal.

Best just to accept you have now bought it and just start using it.

The E5-5 seems to be the model, the bit two numbers afterwards denote the CPU. So any E5-5## review should be relevent for things like build quality.

The processor is in competition with the U suffix models of Intel's pentium range like the 4405U. It is AMD's latest Carizzo/Stoney Ridge design so one of it's advantages will be lower power consumption than older pentiums like the 3805U when watching HEVC video. DDR4 will also mean future memory upgrades are cheaper.

Overall I'd say it's a reasonable price for a machine with a 2TB drive if the laptop itself is acceptable quality, but it isn't any sort of exceptional deal.

why i ask is because i was expecting it 2 alot faster than what it actual is , its not slow or anything just would of thought it to be faster .
sister has a dell laptop with i5 4thgen. its about 5 r 6 years old and it seems to be faster and it only has 4g ram and has been used alot. it looks better (made out of metal frame) and has a better screen .
have a feeling this laptop wont last as long

only in level with intel plentium?. i was expecting to be inline with at least the i5 5th procssor, if not the latest i3

Does your sister's dell have an SSD or Hybrid drive? Your laptop only has a hard drive, and probably a slow 5400rpm one, which is going to be a more significant factor in how it feels than 20% CPU performance either way.

All the U suffix Intel CPUs are fairly close to each other in the grand scheme of things so it's not a big deal.

But yeah, it's only got a single Excavator module instead of the dual module A12/FX models that are the real competition for the i3u/i5u.

no its just a 500gb hdd in the dell an its near full. the 2tb hdd isnt improtant 2 me id barely even use up 120gb space. i just bought it for the 8gb ram and a9 processor i thought it was going to be fast, cause will be using auto cad and soildworks just in light use, people at argos said it was goin to be more than enough. would i be fit to bring it back?. web browsering isnt even smooth theres noticeable stutter. could have bought an i3 laptop for £300 r less .

sisters is a dell vostro 3500 with a i5 520 cpu it probably has couple of virus on it as well. an it feels so much snappier. a side to comparison proves this as well its well over 5 years old all original parts running windows 7 pro and mines not even 1 day old and its running windows 10 must be faulty

With a laptop pretty much always go by the CPU, you can add more ram or upgrade the HDD/ssd, but the CPU is a big job to upgrade, very expensive and not very easy to get hold of.

Personally I've always avoided amd for laptop as Intel pretty much always had the edge on the mobile platform.
I also wouldn't go for anything less then an i3 as they will last much longer, in terms of keeping up with the latest software.

Ah, if you're seeing actual problems like stuttering rather than just something that 'feels' less nippy then it's unlikely to be the headline specs. Either it's flat out broken or there's a problem with a design. The A9-9410 is at least as fast as an old i5-520M.

It's a good set of specs, but it sounds like it wasn't the optimal set for your requirements. I would take it back to Argos and show them the problems so you get a full refund.
