Hello

I'm looking for a Digital Camera, it must have at least

8MP
5x Optical Zoom
2.5 Inch Screen
Unlimited Movie Recording (With Sound)
Take Both SD and SDHC Cards

I would like it to take AA battery's but if it doesn't, could you post a link to a site that sell spare battery's for the camera, I have £200 to spend.

Here was some I was looking at earlier

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3
Canon IXUS 950 IS
Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera

I know the above don't meet all the stuff I want but I know with my price range I will have to be prepared to give a little.

Any help? :)

8.0 Megapixels
An 8.0 Megapixel CCD sensor captures in high resolution for large photo lab quality prints.

Wide-angle lens with optical IS
A 28mm (equivalent) wide-angle lens with 3.8x zoom enables the capture of large scenes from closer range. Canon's optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology counteracts camera shake for blur-free shots at slower shutter speeds and full zoom.

Modern styling
The striking design of the Digital IXUS 860 IS contrasts smooth, simple lines with bold black edges. The large, square controls are easy to access and a Touch Control Dial enables fingertip control of key camera functions.

Total anti-blur solution
In tandem with IS, user-selected Auto ISO Shift offers enhanced protection against camera shake. ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto protect against camera shake during longer exposures, as well as blur caused by typical subject movement.

DIGIC III with Face Detection AF/AE/FE
Canon's DIGIC III processor provides lightning quick responses, superb image quality and advanced noise reduction for sharper, clearer images. Face Detection AF/AE/FE and iSAPS analyse the scene, detect subjects in the frame and select the optimum focus, exposure and flash settings.

Red-Eye Correction
When operating in playback mode, Face Detection Technology allows you to quickly and accurately correct red-eye without affecting the rest of the image.

PureColor LCD
A bright 3" high resolution (230,000 pixels) PureColor LCD screen has improved colour reproduction, and offers a wide viewing angle for easy framing and review. An anti-glare, scratch-resistant coating aids visibility in bright light and adds extra protection against knocks and scrapes.

Shooting modes and My Colors
17 shooting modes including Beach, Portrait and Kids & Pets aid the capture of still images in tricky lighting conditions. My Colors in-camera photo effects can be applied both during and after shooting.

Movie options
Movie modes include Long Play (LP) for VGA (30fps) clips that use half the normal memory card space, and Time Lapse Movie which captures changing scenes - such as a flower’s bloom or a bustling city street - for accelerated playback as smooth video clips.

Safety Zoom and Digital Tele-Converter
Safety Zoom offers extra zoom magnification without affecting image quality. The Digital Tele-Converter adds extra telephoto capability - just like adding a tele-converter lens to the camera.

What is Supplied in the Box ?

Canon Ixus 860 IS Digital Camera, Wrist Strap WS-DC2, Battery Charger (CB-2LXE), Battery Pack (NB-5L), AV Cable (AVC-DC300), Interface Cable (IFC-400PCU), Memory Card (32mb), Software CD-ROM.

Hi, we were looking at the Ricoh Calipo R7, that seems to have good spec, the downside we found is that the screen has a poor resolution so they look bad on the viewing screen but are ok when you print them. I dont really know a lot about cameras and am in exactly the same position as you so i will look out for any more replies to this question. There are just so many about i dont know which to choose.:?

The Canon Powershot S5is is possibly slightly over your budget (209.99 + £7.99 delivery here), but I'm sure it would knock most of the others into a cocked hat. However, it's not small, so if you wanted something a bit more compact (which I'm assuming may be the case, then you might want to look elsewhere!)

The Canon Powershot A720is may fit most of the criteria, and is certainly within budget.

Why on earth would you want it to take batteries?

In case you forget to recharge the internal Li-ion battery and it runs out when you need it. With AA batteries, you can just buy a couple of Alkaline AA's and carry on. Obviously you'll be using decent NiMH batteries the rest of the time (Eneloop, Hybrio etc for preference). I know this as it's happened only to often to me.

But isn't it really expensive?

You can buy AA batteries almost anywhere..
I'd be gutted if the battery pack run out if I was out for the day - or I was away on hols and forgot the charger

Wow a lot of replys :)

Thanks everyone for their suggestions, after making this topic last night I came across the
Canon PowerShot G7 (£40 over budget)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-G7-Digital-Camera/dp/B000IMBA2M/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1203000620&sr=8-1

I then saw the Canon PowerShot G9 and for the extra £55 I think its worth it so I'm now thinking of going for this one, unless of course anyone can recommend me a better digital camera, even though from what I've read this seems to be the best, before you're getting into DSLRs (I did read on a review site it being better than some of the budget DSLRs).

Has anyone used the Canon PowerShot G9 before?

heres the link

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-G9-Digital-Camera/dp/B000V9D6FQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1203000999&sr=8-1

also does anyone have any websites that sell it for cheaper than £295? it has to be from the uk though otherwise I think warranty is void.

ps: I did at first only intend to spend £150 then I went up to £200 then £240 and now £295 lol

Thanks but I wouldn't order from them as the site doesn't seem as professional as others, one example is the UPS logo is ruff around the edges.
