Going on holiday to Egypt in august and have £150 to spend on a digital camera , i've already got a camcorder so taking vids isn't a priority, battery life is though , and it would be good if there that price was inclusive of large memory memory, proberly want to take about 200 photos, how much memory will i need for that? so looking for the best camera at that price, thanks.

Taking into account your concern for battery life I would recommend the Fuji F models - good for about 500 pictures.

The link below gives you one for £118 leaving plenty for a 2gb SD card - at least 500 pictures...

Note that you do NOT need a fast card for this camera - but buy a good branded one - e.g. Sandisk or Kingston - dvd.co.uk often competitive for these - and Play.com have had good prices recently.

Just one small problem, the quoted Fuji doesn't use SD Cards.. :whistling:

Well spotted - the latest Fujis use SD as well as Xd and I assumed this was similar.

Recommendation still applies though - just make sure you buy an Xd card!

Thanks for the advice, i was thinking about this camera

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuji-FinePix-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000O57OWI/ref=sr_1_1/202-2035136-3403856?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1184003352&sr=1-1

is this the newer model? and is it better?

Also i noticed the zoom is only X3, would i be better with a higher one?

I'd go with the superb F31 - 8mp might end up giving you noisier results.

I wouldn't touch anything other than a Fuji at this price point.

Marginally, but not worth the price difference over the F31, which has an excellent track record.

Great choice.

Read this

It is important to set up -1/3EV and choose correct metering. Settings fine for F31FD too.

I have F31 but in your shoes if I could buy F30 (only difference is lack of face recognition) I would choose it, if it represented at least £25 saving.

If you had to fault the camera, it is the fact that Photoshop tweaking takes this camera on a level, and most users just don't want to do that. However, even without Photoshop the images produced are way above anything in it's price range especially at 400ASA and above.

great camera and real cheap price. I take pics for a living so use DSLRs but this is a great compact for taking places.

Hmmm not heard a gerat deal about the Samsung - Still say the Fuji's rule the roost at this price point. Their HIGH iso (non flash) indoor results are staggering....as good as my Nikon DSLR in many cases. The only other make i'd consider are panasonic due to their excellent Image stabilisation but indoor they are not in the same league as the Fuji's

okay im going to get the f31, how many pics will a 2gb xd card store? also does any one know were can get a cheaper case which fits it? and is there anything else i need?

I've been using a kodak z612 for the past 10 months and i really like it,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kodak-EasyShare-Z612-Optical-Zoom/dp/B000F7L7Z0

Within your budget and lets you have manual control with a lot of setting (shutter speed, aperture etc) or point and click.

has image stabilisation as well as being 10X zoom

Are those types of cameras better than the normal compact ones? As im not to bothers about size.

I have found that Kodak's give good results, but their build quality isn't up to that of Fuji's.

Well the zoom is better than most compacts and the image stabilisation helps avoid blurry pictures.

With regards to the comment on build quality my camera came touring round europe with me for a month, and it got lightly rained on and when not in use it was in a motorcycle tank bag. Not a mark on it and it works fine. I would say the build quality is just fine.

if i buy the f31fd or the f40fd from china will it be any different from the one from amazon?? i can get the f40fd for £125 with a case and a 1gd memory stick, an eariler poster said the f40 is slightly better but not worth the price differnce, so getting it cheaper than the f31 and with accessories seems like a bargain.
#17
Also can some one explain all this ISO stuff and what it means, and what is image noise??
#18
I got a Pentax Optio A20 from Pixmania. 10Mega Pixel AND it records video in DIVx format. Most excellent value for money and lovely looking camera.
I got 4GB SDHC from memorybits too.
#19
If you don't know about ISO & Image noise you definately want a Fuji F31 - will get you the best results with not too much input from you.

Picked up the Panasonic TZ3 from Comet for £213 on Thursday as I had a discount code for £15 as the web price for Comet it £228 and the camera is £300 in most high street stores

Only had a quick play on the camera but am very impressed so far

Picked up the Panasonic TZ3

Lovely camera, however the OP said he/she has £150 to spend, which rules out the TZ3.

What are peoples opinons on the Sony Cybershot W100?

thanks alot for your help, i decided on the f40fd which came today, and i am very impressed looks great and within 2 hours i know all the features and how to use them, all the images are crisp and very detailed, and also very impressed with the face detection. :)

Panasonix Lumix fx12 is probably the best overall camera for the money.

From dixons online

£134 and you claim £40 claim back from Panasonic. Less than £100.

I bought one and can not fault it.

Takes widescreen pictures, extra zoom option, [email protected] quicktime widescreen movies, sd card, 300 battery life etc. etc.

I would recomm. it.
