I picked up an Olympus VN-120 from Fleabay for about £20, it does what it says on the tin and is a nice little dictaphone if that helps.

Do you know if any of them work with Voice recognition software like the Dragon software? I think I would like to turn dictation files recorded in the car or out of the office into text when I get back
Thanks,

Well, I've transferred data from the dictaphone to the pc via a standard mic cable and copy it to MP3, so presumably the same should apply to Dragon, if you're after a USB enabled one, I know they exist but not too sure about how price, etc.
I would imagine the Argos version does the same btw.

Thanks for the info, although I thought the dictation machine had to be of a particular quality for speech recognition to work at it's best. Ie. high quality mic & record quality. Not sure the Argos one would be up to that? (thanks for the offer though! Bri...)

Most of them have high, low and medium quality settings but I guess it depends on the built in mic, I use an external mic with a foam windbreak and it's good quality, I've found that the wind can be a real issue.

Thanks all. This Olympus model was recommended on one review I read, just looking into it now....you can use it as a USB memory stick as well! http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/2581_WS-110.htm

I guess I'm not allowed to post links to websites that have offers? So I got put in the sin bin for a day & accused of self promotion? Anyway for those still interested in a Dictation machine that works with voice recognition software here are my findings on the best offer I could find.
Olympus Ws110: Amazon have for around £50.00, Dragon software: Amazon for Around £100.

However I ordered both from a company for £78.50 inc vat. It's arrived now & works really well. Dictate into the Ws110 & plug straight into PC & it's recognised by The Dragon Preferred software & turned into text. Pretty cool.
