you just need a freeview box about £20 from any electrical store, presuming you are in a freeview reception area. You may also need to change your aerial for a high gain one (however this usually is not necessary if you already get a good clear reception).

If you are not in a freeview area, its sky tv for you.

If you go down the new telly route, just make sure it has a freeview receiver included. Nice little Samsung here.

Also bear in mind that your VCR will have an analogue tuner aswell, so you won't be able to use it after the analogue gets switched off. Well, you'll be able to set it up to record the channel that you're watching, but it'll be a pain in the backside to do any timer records.

It may be worth looking into getting a pvr, these are hard disk based video recorders which allow you to record 1 or 2 freeview channels simultaneously. They really are fantastic, if you have the money then I'd recommend the Humax 9200T although it costs about £180. I don't have one, but if I had the money I would. At the other end of the market, you can try your luck and pick up a refurbished Digifusion for less than £50. I own a digifusion and love it to bits, but other people have had problems. If you want more info, I'd go over to the pvr forum at www.digitalspy.co.uk
