Daughter has a new phone, on EE. Not bought by me. I mentioned to sales person that I wanted to pop in her previous/current O2 sim so she could download priority app. She doesn't use the app much, but it's nice for her to have it there. Salesperson told me if I did that it would lock the phone. I'm not paying the contract, so didn't want to go ahead and try it anyway. Is that actually true? And if so, any recommendations for a cheap phone she could use to download the app onto?

Her new one is iPhone 7

Complete rubbish but iphone 7 wont accept the o2 sim unless the iphone 7 is unlocked. Best thing to do is download the app on iphone 7 then you just need a passcode that will be sent via txt to the o2 sim so has she still got her original phone to use for this?

Ye, we thought of that, but O2 priority app wasn't showing as available to download from App Store on her new phone :(

Oh, also, I'd have thought that installing her back up into new phone would've installed the app, along with her others, but it didn't

iPhones bought from most high st retailers lock the phone to the network of the first sim you set the phone up on. So I'd be inclined to listen to the sales person!
The o2 priority app can be downloaded on any handset and isn't linked to what sim is in the phone. The only reason you'd have to have a sim in a phone is when o2 send you the auth code for the app. But if you leave that sim in the old phone and enter the code in the new one ;) as post above :)

I downloaded the o2 app on my tesco mobile and then used my work o2 number to register it on my phone

It's definitely available. I typed 'O2 Priority' into the App Store and it's the first thing that came up. No need to have the SIM in the phone, as long as you can get the text message on a different phone - as mentioned previously.

A great cheap phone is a iPhone 4 or if u are lucky a iPhone 7 plus

Where is the phone from? if its from CPW etc. Then when your daughter puts in her EE sim, the phone will only be able to be used on EE. Other networks wont work in the phone, "locking" it to the EE network. Just as guido tried to explain, there are other ways around this.

put ur ee sim in first if that's the one u want use. ee do free unlocking know anyway I'm sure so after using that sim try the other if it works it works if not ring ee and get unlock code off them for free

Sorry, have been awaiting her getting up to update. There seems to be a prob with iCloud and general app install. As her O2 sim and prev phone was still running when she got new phone, I told her to delete app on prev phone, re-Installing on the new phone, using code sent to prev phone to activate, and it wouldn't work. It seems that the phone is set to US settings? So she tells me. This is the Apple ID she's prev used, but it's asking for card details with no option to skip, as there should be an option to install free apps automatically. Sorry, it's a different issue that id thought it was. Still not resolved though, so if anyone has any advice re this, I'd be grateful. She doesn't want to ring Apple, but I think it could be the handset?

I'm sort of confused now, so if I buy a iphone from O2 and then put an EE sim in there, it will lock the phone to EE?

She's made a new iCloud. Used my Amex as a payment method, then deleted after setting up, as I knew Amex are best if anything goes wrong. Kerfuffle

Generally yes. I'd check with the store before purchasing but that's the long and short of it.
