Hi,

Looking to buy a bluray player for the bedroom. The TV i have in there is a 12 year old LCD with only a scart socket and compenent. Will a hdmi to component cable work or would i need to buy a converter such as the ones listed on amazon?

Thanks in advance!

No, there will be no HDCP signal. Probably cheaper to replace the TV. See http://www.cnet.com/news/component-video-is-missing-or-crippled-on-2011-blu-ray-players-heres-why/#!

Would you notice the difference between dvd and bluray on a 12 year old lcd?
You could buy a blu-ray player which was released before 2011 with has component output, they do exist.
Also The Blu-ray standards indicate that when component video is used, the highest output that can be sent (allowable) is 1080i. IF the image contraint token (ICT) is not enabled. If the ICT is enabled, the video must be down converted to 540p!

Thanks both the answers guys unless i find an old player this isn't going to happen. I basically just want to watch the blu rays i have upstairs not bothered about picture quality etc. This is why they should still do the dvd/blu ray combi packs!

The Sony bdp-s370 has component, around £30 on eBay? Less if you're lucky...

Not really financially viable to sell it this way. Very few customers would require it - Blu Ray players can be picked up now for next to nothing.

Would agree if they included the tv!
