You'll prob see an "All Stock Must Go" sign in every Woolies window very soon.....they'll try to raise as much cash as possible especially given that theres only a few weeks to Christmas then the New Year Sales.....

I tried to make this point in another thread and go shot down for wanting a good bargain more than being sympathetic ...lol

I am sure the 30,000 employees will thank you for for your concern and thoughts at this time.

From where do you get they are closing in down in January?
#4
im not sure

they need a decent management team in there who know how to get the costs down and the clever commerciality going again. theyve not been right cracking at being lively on the market place. it needs to turn into a 1 market store and have less extras to survive.

I just hope your family members jobs come under danger just before Christmas, lets see how you like people having a joke about that.

Somehow think their would be a bleating 'this country is going to the dogs' post then.

Yes, you are right. Because I got made redundant recently and I dont give a flying hoots about the rest of the 30,000...they dont put food on my table so lets be clear, i dont care. I'm on here as a consumer so unless you bail woolies out of trouble I'm going to walk in to their shops and have me some bargains over Christmas and New Year. :p

Thanks for the info. I have two kids who work @ Woolworths & rely on there jobs to further there education, and today they where assured that they would be the first to know of any closure plans! So much for loyalty..Still dislike the hurtful comments from Scotland.

Sorry to hear that Bella, not good timing eh. Sometimes when changes are forced on us, it turns out better in the long run :) When I was laid of in the 90's, i did some training & ended up in a far better job

I'm really sad that Woolworths is in this situation, and I hope we don't lose one of the popular faces of the high street. I often shop there these days, I hope I will for years to come.

I have to admit though - if there are sales going on there - then I'm going to head there too.

My hubby got laid off 3 months ago - it's tough out there at the moment and it's no consolation coming 2nd in interviews! :-(.

Fingers crossed for all those hard working people looking for work or about to lose their jobs x x
#35
Primark are taking over woolies in Chester
#36
should of gone to uni, instead of drinking, getting laid, waiting for next month's pay and doing it all over again.
[Moderator]#37
My local woolies rebranded themselves Woo worths a long time ago...i reckon they were going more oriental.
#38
Anyone who lose their jobs when Woolworths disappear will just go to the dole office and they will wage match, I can only guess but I have no doubt the wages there will be minimum wage. Only way is up for them
#39
And where has their website gone is what I'm wandering ????

I bought three fibre optic trees today for 3 for 2 they were £15 each so 3 for 2 = £30 but when I went to pay she said everything in the store apart from CD's was 20% off so ended up paying £8 each for these lovely tees, so went back and bough loads of cholcolates:)
