I currently have an iPhone 3G 8GB on Tmobile Contract (bought sim free); however, I am thinking about upgrading it to the 3GS version.

My upgrade is due from Tmobile next month, and I am aware of them giving it out - but I do not want to be tied into any high priced 18mth contract so am considering taking the line rental discount instead (on my old Flext 35 with Free evening & weekend calls).

Ok....
Carphone warehouse do the 16GB iPhone 3GS for £450... O2 charge £15 to unlock - totalling £465... Is it possible to unlock straight after buying the phone and is it worth it???

Any other suggesting would be appreciate :-D

if you buy the payg one you get 12 months free internet which may be of great value to you-I bought an unlocked one in the applestore in paris last week for 349 euros for a white 32gb-by law in france they cant tie you to a contract so they have to offer all phones "sans engagement"-totally unlocked so Ive put my own sim in but of course have to pay for the internet so maybe not the bargain I thought it was at first.

Thanks for you advice, but I have internet on my mobile phone contract already... So only really need the phone but needs to be unlocked so I can use my Tmobile Sim... Maybe a trip to France is in order :-)

I bought a white 32gb iphone 3gs last week (from an o2 store) and just waiting for o2 to unlock it for £15 but yes they do it right away but can take up to 14 days for this process to be completed. (obviously this is an initial outlay of around 550 though).

I have been charged and they say 4 days after you have been charged, which for me is tommorow.I will report back in hopefully with a woohoo!!

I wanted to stick with t-mobile and get the 32gb phone so basically told them i was leaving unless they made it worth my while.

ended up with 600mins unlimited texts unlimited internet on a 28 day rolling for £15 a month.
works out around the same as most of the big contracts and i have an unlocked phone as well!

ps now i wish i went to france haha :(

Oh my word!!! The deal you have from Tmobile sounds great (I may have to tell them I'm leaving also, to be offered something as cheap as yours :-D !

I might just go ahead and buy the pay as you go 16G 3GS tomorrow, and send off for the unlock codes, if it is actually cheaper doing it that way (other than the France option of course)...

Is it better to buy from the O2 store? As I was going to go to Apple or Carphone warehouse - and do you get 12mths warranty with unlocking?

Sorry for the 101 questions:oops:

Barky,

I am on an Orange limited tariff - as they tried to keep me last time £20month discount and 20% loyalty. As part I get 250meg a month internet.
If I picked an Iphone up from France - would I easily be able to use it after unlocking ??

Sorry for such a newb question

it is already unlocked m8-you can ask to buy it that way in the apple store-it will take any sim card.

You would certainly need to increase the 250meg internet though (if its one for your phone!)... THe iPhone would 'eat that up' in a matter of days!

it took me afew attempts at it as i almost took the iphone contract they offered me and on this time i was actually genuinely calling to cancel. if you look online at the current solo contracts they gave me one of those but with a £5 loyalty discount on it to shut me up i think!

I went to o2 purely because its them doing the unlocking i thought it was the safest option and from past experiences i avoid the carphone warehouse.

Good luck.

Such a great deal (I'm jealous:oops:) !

I will definately bare this in mind when I call them to upgrade... I should 'hopefully' be offered a tariff/contract half decent as they keep telling me I have built up alot of loyalty with them! We'll see... In the meantime, its either making my way down to the O2 shop, or a one day trip to France on the cards lol.

Can non-French national buy one over there or do I have to get a French buddy to purchase if for me?

Yeah but by the time you've gone to France an back, you've most probably spent over £500, includes the iphone, Rtn ticket to paris and back, food, taxi/train, and not forgetting the stress.
