What are BT like?

Currently with SSE and they don't block anything but there is very heavy traffic management in the evenings.

we have just moved to BT, and have set up our own parental blocking filters , but it's never blocked any of the sites we use since doing this . I guess it depends which type of sites you are using ;) We have tried other blocking software in the past and it has blocked you tube in its entirety as some of the content didn't meet its filters . If you are using torrent sites all the major providers blocked access to them , I understand there are ways round that, personally I don't pirate stuff though.

BT have not blocked putlocker (which is blocked by virgin) which means they probably haven't blocked other sites that have had take down orders .
But it depends exactly what you want blocked/unblocked

That'll probably be because your friend hasn't changed the filter settings to "Adult" on his account....maybe? Ask him to log into his router and change the settings to allow Adult sites and try your sites again.

Are parental orders going to affect this: "BSKYB is required by Court to prevent access to this site in order to help protect against copyright infringement" ?

I tried to load several VPNs and proxies - and whilst they were not blocked, the sites would simply not load.

Get a VPN...

They all block to varying degrees. I switched to sky 2 months ago and took me all of 5 minutes to find proxy sites for all the ones they have blocked. I used to be with VM and find them no better.

After all, the sites are blocked due to high court orders.

I'm with BT now after several years with sky. Found no difference at all in sites that are blocked, but I just use opera and switch on the built in vpn and can navigate to said site with no issues.

all torrent sites have been blocked by VM, but as Chocci says it takes minutes (if that) to find a way around them

I've BT and I've only had an issue with not being allowed permission to a site once and it was Adidas!! I just removed my cookies and it was fine. You can opt to block certain sites though and at various times of day, to stop kids using internet when homework, etc. should be getting done. I guess it depends what sites yours looking at every day? You could check in their forum or help before purchasing. I've always had great customer service.

Only the LARGE ISPs are required by law to block websites on the governments black list; this list - which was ORIGINALLY touted as blocking child porn, is now being used to block torrent sites, and websites deemed to be infringing copyrights.
Changes to the law mean it will block "Adult" sites in the near future, and since the word "Adult" has a very broad meaning, probably any website the government doesnt like in a few years time.

Install Chrome browser and turn on data save. Everything that was blocked is no longer blocked. Worked about a year ago when I tried it. Had no need to use lately

Porn, Gambling and other adult filters can be turned off.

Torrents and other piracy websites are blocked, not every website but it's a cat and mouse game with the courts & websites popping up.

If your favourite torrent site is blocked then just look for one of many proxies or just use a VPN.

I'd take blocked sites over throttled browsing any day.
