twice I have had my car in at the dealership both when it's needed a service and twice I have told them since new it has had a whistle and chirp noise on idle, more when I rev, even when driving you can hear it through the gear change. first time they said the starter motor like the astra pings when you turn it over. hmm didn't even mention a ping or starter motor. I was told to keep an eye on it to see if gets worse (the starter motor) yesterday went back in for service and told them about the noise getting louder and consistent, I even let them listen to a recording I had made, one said possibly a valve another mentioned injectors. when I got it back I was told they all do that as the machine says the car is running fine. here is a link , when I'm driving the car whistles through gear change. any ideas or does your meriva as they say do the same. it's a 1.4 petrol ta

I had no idea my hearing was so bad until I listened to the video. No whistles, no chirp. I guess all of us must have different frequencies etc which some of us here and yet others don't.

I have a meriva b 1.4 turbo, it doesn't make any noises like yours. That sounds like its having problems idling after use of the throttle, sounds like a problem with the throttle position sensor.

With the engine running remove the oil filler cap is it difficult to remove due to suction and doe's the noise go away if so it will require a rocker cover at about £200
