Hi
We are looking to book up for the Dominican either this August or September and was just wondering if any of you knew any good websites or deals at the min.

It would be for 2 adults all inclusive for 2 weeks preferably from nwcastle but if its considerably cheaper would go from manchester. also preferably playa dorada.
Budget around £1300.

Thanks

Stacey

We stayed at the Iberostar cost dorada in 2005 and it was fantastic.

Great gardens and pool area, nice clean modern rooms, quality food, nice and friendly staff, great beach with watersports.

Would definately recommend stopping here.

Can send you some pics if you want.........?

Hi
My hubby and I have been to playa dorada the last 2 years. Last year we stayed at the Bluebay Getaway Villas. Which was amazing Its adults only (but no funny swinging going on). We have booked to go back this year (July) as It was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We booked through Thomas Cook. I think the have the hotel down as the Villas Doradas. They are the cheapest. But legroom on the planes isnt very good..The year b4 we stayed at the Gran Ventana, which was also great..also on the thomas cook website. If there are any Thomson voucher deals on here at the moment maybe worth looking at. You could also check out www.tripadvisor.com they have some realistic reviews there which will help you. You have to be a bit careful going to dominican as some of the hotels have had a lot of sickness. But there were no problems at all where we stayed. Hope this helps Jane

went to the Bahia Principe at San Juan last year and wholly recommend that, though it is fairly isolated. but is so big and has everything there it really does not matter.
I found after extensive research that the best place to book was with Travel Republic, they were much cheaper than others for the same thing and seemed to have more flexible booking options. also there was a code going round at the time for 7% discount i think it was student07 or similar.. I would not go in august or september though as its hurricane time - best time is Jan to May ... October to Jan next best time

I looked into the Dominican Republic last year in great detail, and there were too many bad reports about the hotels etc - so we opted for Barbados again !

We did think of there and cuba but barbados looked quite expensive.

if you can wait until mid to late september you avoid the summer holidays youll get loads more for you money, i did this and paid £350 all inclusive for a week in the dominican a year ago and £360 for a week in cuba this year, the difference between two weeks was minimal on both, about £50-70 pounds but we had to get back to uni. when i was looking mexico, jamaica and barbados could all be got for your budget

We went to the Dominican Republic for the first time last year and booked on the strength of reviews on the internet (not sure I can name the website here?) We also stayed at the Iberostar Costa Dorada and it was absolutely brilliant, the hotel and people are great I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We have just booked to go again this summer. We got a really good deal from Direct Holidays, much cheaper than anyone else and they are now owned by Thomas Cook.

CUBA is much better than Dominica!, but dominica is still nice.

we stayed at the sirensis cocatal beach resort in punta cana ,it was a 5 star then and a 4 star now, punta cana is in the middle of nowhere, i always book through instantholidays or future travel, both part of co-op group

we used lowcostbeds.com when we went, you have to do your own transfers(it cost $25us to get to the resort) the accomadation was nice but 1 week was enough for us, also beware of the beach traders, they will try to rip you off!!!!!

thanks all for your adivce.
When we looked we were on direct holidays and they did seem to be the cheapest.

Guerilla with regards to jamaica n barbados etc...which site did you look on for that?

i dont remember sorry, when i went to the dominican and cuba thomas cook was actually the cheapest for me, probably should of mentioned before that i booked up just a week before i went, i knew when i wanted to go, cause i knew when they flew to dominican/cuba, and then waited, i know its riskier than booking now, but its worked out for me both times, if i wasnt being taken on holiday this year i wouldnt think twice about doing the same. infact if i can stop buying eery deal i see i might even do it this year

do beware of the beach buyers as well, one got my pissed on rum served in a coconut, then i bought loads of the rum! ah well it was funny at the time, they do have some brilliant crack, still wasnt get my hair braided though

unfortunately im from peterlee, thats why i say county durham in my profile instead

i wouldn't say cuba was more relaxed they're both pretty laidback islands, cubans do work on 'cuban' time though so if you want super quick service its not the island for you. fortunately i loved this as im so laid back im horizontal as my boss tends to say. another bonus for cuba is the mojito, the greatest drink known to man! cuba also has amazing rum (havana club) really cheap, they wash their hands in it! also i cuba has a pretty amazing history in my opinion, id really love to go back and do a bit of a history tour rather than lounging around all day.

yeah thats what we want really, not just loungin about all day we wanna be able to do stuff aswell.
think wel prob go for cuba. prices are coming up cheaper for there too. about £1200 for cuba 5th september for 2 weeks ai. pretty reasonable i reckon.
