Hi, just wondered if anyone could give me a little bit of advice....

My sons got a built in DVD player on his tv. Every disc I put in wont play. It just clicks but I'm not sure if it's spinning the disc (I don't think it is). I have tried one of those DVD/CD lens cleaning kits but it still doesn't want to play any DVDs still.
Am I best looking for a new tv DVD player? (Fingers crossed this isn't the case)

Thanks in advance for help.

can you not use a cheap dvd player and attached when needed? why not open the back off it may just be dust or debris stopping it ?

when did it last work? has anything changed since? can it be configured to play DVDs from any region?

Unfortunately so many of these "built-in" players go bad. That's why I never recommend them to anyone. Yes, it's nice to have an all-in-one but separate is usually best. They can be difficult to open up (with only limited skill) and could also be dangerous to poke around if not sure what you are doing. Not that I'm saying you aren't, of course. A number of things can be an issue: The drive itself might have died. The laser may have become misaligned and therefore cannot read the disc. Most of the time it's not worth the hassle to get it looked at/repaired. Hit a charity shop/Ebay/pawnbroker etc. and pick up a nice little player or even Tesco have new cheapie ones. Plug it into TV and away you go. Problem solved!

Best regards, Phsy.

Also, if you can hear something clicking, then something may have come adrift. There's always the old tried 'n' tested method of giving it a gentle tap! hehe. I've known horizontal DVD players to start working again after a little 'physical' encouragement (if you know what I mean!) to realign the internals. If its a smallish TV, I might suggest laying the TV "screen up" and try inserting a disc again. It's safest with two people of course as one can support the TV whilst the other tinkers with the DVD bit. Don't lay the TV flat on a surface though. Keep it above ground, as it were.

It just stopped suddenly, literally working one day then not the other??

maybe just a fair wear and tear thing unless it is less than a year old (and in some cases less than 6 years old)

Always buy separate components to avoid situations like this. Buy your son a second had PS3 & delight him. He'll now have a Blu-ray as well as a DVD player upscaling his movies, a games console & catch up to as I'm guessing his combo/DVD was not smart. £90 & you'll be a hero & he'll be delighted. I am assuming combo TV has a HDMI. If not, you've done him a favour...definitely time for an upgrade.

short sharp shock at the back of the DVD may align laser as said above.

Thanks for all your advice! It's not a new tv/dvd so it's probably had its last day. I'm going to try the "pat on the back" first then failing that,it'll get chucked.

Thank you guys
