I recently sold an imported Japanese console on eBay with a transformer that I have used plenty of times and never had an issue.

I had 2 buyers not pay and the third buyer paid and was sent the item a week ago is now claiming it was working but now after several uses it won't power on at all. I have asked him if he used all the cables that came with it and not others as I know it worked with what was supplied which he says he did.

What should I do? It was fine for me with no issues...

Paypal will refund him from your account and he MIGHT send you the console back, don't worry he'll damage a cable as well just make it look like it was faulty.
Selling on Ebay for private sellers now is fraught with problems as everyone knows buyers win disputes!

Nothing you can do if he opens a case, Maybe offer him a discount it may work ebay is full of ****.
#3
Well just hope that case

Lean heavily on the fact that it arrived working and hope that's a good enough reason for PayPal and eBay not to screw you.

Do you have any videos or photos of it working?

eBay will side with the buyer they do 98% of the time so just accept the return I'm afraid

Sorry mate but your screwed. As mentioned above private seller get no help in these cases. If I were u I would cancel PayPal so they don't take your money.

I had a case were I sent the item and over a month later the buyer filed 'not received' case....enough time to complete and sell the game.

Yup, your screwed,

Have to ask tho' - did the transformer you mention come with the console?
or was it one you found that just happened to work with it?

Get him to return the item to you for inspection/repair. This way you have you item back, if he mentions about opening a case go with "thats fine but obviously you'll need to send the item back prior to refund given."

If he opens a case DO NOT bother to dispute it, as already said we know EBay will side with the buyer in the end, accept the return, this way EBay/Paypal will not refund him even if he uploads proof of tracking details to you(you are being co-operative so Ebay has no reason to step in), you should be given time to check the item over (potentially attempt repair/replace the cable) and then refund him.

If at the time of inspection there is clear deliberate damage to the cable then raise this directly with Ebay (not via the open case) and send the pictures, in the end though they will still expect the seller to refund.

So in summary the best outcome for you is to get the item back, with a damaged cable that can be replaced, refund the **** (buyer), replace the cable and attempt to sell again, you should be given your sellers fees back from Ebay and Paypal but you'll lose out on postage. Frustrating but at least you have the item back rather than being out of pocket and minus the item.

Its one that was bought to use with my Japanese gamecube and later used with my Japanese ps2 but never had any issues.

Or... The buyer could be making a legitimate claim. Not everybody is out to scam.

lol

I did this when I was 15 and I got a letter 3 months later saying ebay had given my debt over to this company and if I didn't pay they'd be sending debt collectors

my parents were not impressed. Call to ebay resolved it, but still...

I've asked him to return the item so we will see.

could be genuine I once bought a phone off ebay and 2 days later the home button died. seller couldn't have predicted that but neither was I lying. luckily I bought a Samsung phone which was still in warranty so they fixed it but I could easily have sent it back saying not working lucky for the seller I'm not into scamming. just as your seller maybe honest and the transformer has died just after you selling it.

Are you a private seller or a business seller? I'm a business seller so legally have to accept returns. You may have a case of your a private seller that doesn't accept returns. You can argue this out with PayPal and eBay who will look at the fact this person has used it etc before it's broken which in that case you will possibly not be made to refund. PayPal sometimes settle without making you refund.

its the name of the game now when trying to sell stuff on Ebay and Amazon.
instead of a a balanced approach they just side with the buyer.

Amazon just gave a refund on a camera I sold without waiting for it to be returned.

Guess what? It hasn't been returned ! I have opened a claim through the Small Claims Service.

Should be interesting.

EBay new rules, so people who state no returns it is not valid, you now have to pay for return tracked postage printable labels via eBay, so your best accepting the return and paying the return cost and hope you don't get bad feedback, then if you feel strongly about it phone eBay and inform them on what you have said here, eBay can refund you out of there pocket if you give your side and they see your point, good luck
