I have just received an email from ebay stating that my ebay account has been restricted for 7 days!

We reviewed your eBay account and determined that you haven't followed our offers to buy or sell outside of eBay policy. Offers to buy or sell outside eBay, including providing contact information within a member-to-member message, are not allowed.

I am unable to buy or sell for the next 7 days.

They have sent me an item number this was linked to - all i *..* did was ask a seller if they would accept cash on collection (for a s7 edge 2 days ago). We could not agree on a price and never went through with anything, the seller said they'd rather take it to mazuma.., an hour ago the seller ended the item and now i received an email from ebay stating my account has been restricted. I have spoken to ebay on live chat they said out of ebay sales, asking for information is not allowed. Wtf? All i did was ask if i could collect in person and pay cash. There is an option on ebay to sell as cash on collection.. i dont understand what the hell i did wrong!?? The seller was about half hour away from me hence why i offered cash on collection, rather than wait a week for it to arrive.

It's true, it's against policy as they lose out on the final value fee. Just live with it, ebay CS are a joke these days, you won't get anywhere trying to argue it

They must have taken it as you trying to avoid paying their fees. They're looking after their business interests. Unfortunate but more worrying that they monitor all communication :/.

The person was being a right a (other word for a donkey) aswell. The person even in a way agreed with me and said its the system which detected it and theres noway to override this i have to wait 7 days,

Wtf do they care about loosing final value fees on 1 bloody item when they make millions a minute. i just paid £62 in fees like 4 hours ago too!!

all i did was ask if i can do cash on collection,

more reasons everyday to hate ebay even more and time to create an alternative (i wish lol)

Exactly. I swear it used to say everything in personal messages is confidential between the 2 parties. Now the system is eavesdropping everything.

I bought something on ebay collection only and I said I would pay cash when I had viewed the item. Made ebay aware of what I was doing and they were ok with it. Maybe they have recently changed the rules ???

There was an amazing alternative. It was called Yahoo Auctions... Totally free to use, much better than fleabay but they eventually sold out to fleabay... Another mistake in a catalogue of mistakes by Yahoo.

i honestly think someone out there has enough money and resourses to create something similar. but i think its a tad late for anyone to compete with ebay. I mean who doesnt know what ebay is. why would anyone choose another auction site over this except for the ones that have been done injustice by them

how ironic that i literally just recieved an email from ebay for 25% off final fees promotion from the 4-7th LOL.

It lasts to the 9th.

Sounds like you were unlucky with a manual check from ebay. Clearly flagged due to the seller ending the listing early. Bad luck, i make offers via messages all the time. Including cash sale price with no fees..etc. Never been caught for it. But i suspect your situation was flagged and you've been manually checked out from ebay.

They're stepping up on this recently I think. I used to always get away with it for years but only recently did I receive a warning email about it.

Just putting it out there but maybe the seller reported your messages.

I'm similarly fed up fed up with ebay. Been a member more than 11 years. Used to work flawlessly with real good faith on the part of all sellers and buyers. Now there are constant problems - buyers refusing to pay, "not understanding" that a bid equals a commitment. They also take a bigger cut than ever what with their fees and the PayPal fees. I too am looking for an alternative but as someone else on this thread said (in terms) what other auction website gives you the exposure? Sorry to hear about the issue here.

On a desktop it's at the bottom of your selling page.

I can activate about 90% of them but never get them appear. Usually if someone posts the link it works for me..

This time it actually WAS where you said.. Thanks :D:D:D

Just as a temporary account while your main one is restricted, or you can continue using it as a secondary/backup account (not a bad idea in itself, anyway). I did this myself recently when it turned out a business seller didn't have an item in stock afer I had bought it, offered me a discount to buy an alternative but I couldn't make a purchase using my account (I'm guessing they did something to restrict it). Created a second account, bought an alternative with it and claimed the discount they had offered.

Its only seven days, it's not like it's been closed though they do seem to be a bit inconsistent. I just sold a piece of furniture and the guy paid cash on collection literally an hour ago as he said he had trouble paying through ebay. I ended the auction to stop anyone else buying it so ended up paying no fees which was a result.

I remember trying to advertise stuff as COC before ebay split from PayPal and they would cancel your ad but not anymore probably as it doesn't affect their profit as long as they get the selling fee. I still prefer selling stuff on ebay as even with the fees you make more and sell MUCH quicker. I've had stuff on gumtree that might get 10 views a month (in London as well) but has sold for a higher price within a day on the bay.

PS There isn't an option on ebay to sell as "cash on collection" it is "collection in person" which is very different
