anyone maanged to get a deal for a cruise on the nile to see the sights and then finish with a weeks holiday in a resort, been looking around and cant really find any deals.

all seem to be done seperatly and costs a fortune,

if not where is a good resort to stay in Egypt that is resonably close to the best sights (valley of the kings etc).

any advice welcome!

thanks

Maybe not the best, or most luxurious on the Nile.. But a bargain price.
They tend to reuce the price for a cruise a week or so before it's due. So if you want a real bargain you need to monitor the site.
They do extra weeks aswell.
Luxor is the place to stay if you want to go it alone. It's just across the river to the Valley of the Kings...

Did it last year, second time. Fantastic holiday.

Valley of the Kings from the baloon trip. (optional extra.LOL.)

I stayed at Steigenberger Nile Palace Luxor for two weeks at christmas a year ago. It was a very nice hotel. The view across the Nile to the valley of the kings was wonderful. There is a museum in Luxor and karnak temple. The hotel has its own little mooring for boats that offer sailing trips along the Nile. I stupidly packed an umbrella being a typical Londoner only to be told it only rains in Luxor once per year and it lasts for ten whole minutes :)

Sofitel Karnak is a beautiful hotel (although you do need to get taxi's etc for the 5-10 min to Luxor town). Well worth it tho as the hotel is peaceful and the taxi's are cheap. At most times throughout the year the hotel also has a boat service into Luxor. I booked flights and hotel through Kuoni for a cheap deal. My boss did the same thing and he also loved it there. Year before I did a cruise, again with Kuoni, and I do believe they have the option to stay at a hotel at the end of that. Check out their special offers page as I got both my cruise and hotel stay from there at good prices.
I absolutely love Egypt and did a lot of research before both my trips, so do ask if you have any other questions..

thanks for the info guys, i think the holiday i want is either going to be very expensive or very hard to do.
from the info i've got now, i fiqured out this is what i want to do,
ideally i want to fly to Cairo first and visit Giza, then take a cruise down the nile to Luxor - sight seeing on the way - then spend a week in somewhere like Soma bay in a resort, then fly back to the UK from Luxor.
i think i might be asking to much to have all that organised for me!

Blimey.. you don't ask much! lol
Don't know if this helps, but Cairo is really not a nice place to spend longer than 3 days. It actually worked out cheaper and more convenient for me to find a package holiday that I wanted (and in this case it was staying in Luxor) and then buy a return flight and hotel in Cairo independently - Yes we doubled up on beds for those nights, but it also meant not lugging ALL of our luggage to Cairo and back. I got to see the Pyramids and the Museum at Cairo, and then had the ancient sites and relaxing stay in Luxor afterwards. Just saying it might be worth splitting that trip into 2 trips and using special offers that are out there for the bulk of them. Generally the cruises go from Luxor to Aswan and back. Anything south of Aswan and you have cataracts to contend with so the ships can't sail there.. (or so i'm told) Not sure about north of Luxor, but I guess most of the historic sites are between Luxor and Aswan and hence that's the popular bit.

Most of the cruises tend to be from Luxor to Aswan..
There is the option to fly to Cairo as an "extra" while on the cruise.

We have done Cairo from Cyprus, on a three day trip, which was cheapish at the time. Only have the one day at Cairo, pyramids and museum.
