They don't work on the new xp range, firmware stops it, avoid them I know I have one,

If you only need mono print, then logically a cheap laser printer is the answer.

Not true. I have an XP-412 that uses unbranded inks purchased on eBay. The printer recognises that they're not legit but you continue anyway. Works fine for me.

Just make sure to turn off the automatic firmware update option when you install the printer.

I bought a cheap XP-325 on a deal from here. It's been updated and takes compatible inks. So all good here.

Yes your right, but if you have a new one that has the latest firmware then it's pretty much hit and miss, I left everything on at the start and found only official ink worked, I have since turned off all updates,

What make of compatible inks have you used? I know a lot were changing their chips to avoid the issues
