I got one for my sister's NC10 from scan at £36.79 (I got free delivery as a Hexus member):

Beware though, it does not come with a UK plug, so you'll need to buy an attachment, they're around a fiver at Homebase.

I got a Samsung Ext DVD with burns and writes Lightscribe discs as well.
It was only about £30 from Dabs.
But you don't have to buy a matching DVD, you can buy any external one.

Also at £36 and a bit

Super Multi DVD Rewriter supports DVD +R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM, CD-R/RW and Dual Layer DVD +R up to 8.5G.

Lots of similar products available, connect using USB. It does not need to be Samsung for it to work with a Samsung machine.

Be aware though, these drives are as large if not larger than the NC10! If you want something more portable, you'd have to spend a bit more on a slimline with half the spec.

Bit bulky - it's effectively a desktop drive in a case. Much better (and much more expensive) are ones that are powered directly from the USB ports like this one from Scan

I read on here that the xbox hd external dvd drive can also work with it. I mean if one of you guys could confirm it, that wud be great :D its going for 10 pound as well

I got a SE-S084, its a slimline samsung drive that draws power from only the USB port, XP finds it instantly and its ready to go. Reinstalled XP with it fine. Its a DVD Rewriter too, but its quite expensive, expect to pay about £56 for one!

I bought a LG slimline for my NC10. was about £48 from Dixons (less 2.5% code) but dont appear to be in stock now. PC world have them for the same price. COmes packed with various Nero DVD software. Have been using mine and seems ok so far
