Could any one recommend a program to monitor the line for dropouts. I get good speeds 55-72mb but get dropouts, have a new router and wanted to check, this is wired so not wireless. Thanks Read More

Depends if you want to spend your time watching for the dropout?
Open a command prompt on a windows pc.
Then type in Ping http://www.bbc.co.uk -t And hit enter.
This will check the link between your pc and the BBC website continuously. If there are any dropouts you will see the check staff, or you will see the ms increase.

Have you tried to plug directly into your test socket? This is a common troubleshooting step to rule out issues with the line. Here's a guide from BT: https://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21507/~/how-to-use-the-test-socket-on-your-mastersocket/c/5106/

If you have a fixed IP or IP rotation is infrequent, this free service is good. Registration required, but no spam http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

Does your router log stuff at all? Mine time stamps everything into a downloadable log file.

Have you tried replicating the fault like kicking the fridge compressor on, turning the heating on stuff like that?

Have you got a VDSL router or are you using a cable router & an OR modem?

I use a Fritzbox 7490 on mine one box solution hasn't dropped the connection once in 2 years.

My first step would be router/modem logs to see if there's a LoS event or a PPP drop could be VDSL drop of could be your ISP dropping the session for some reason

I had the new fibre socket, so hope its not this.

Program called "NetWorx". Was actually recommended to myself by an Openreach Engineer way back in the days of ADSL as was having severe speed issues. The program can also produce reports which you can send on as proof to ISP's etc.

if you just have a new router don't most ISP use the first 10 days to work out your highest speed? it might just be trying to stabilise the connection.
