When I do a speed test it varies from 21-27 Meg. Is this normal? Should it fluctuate like that and should I be expecting the 34 Meg?

If you're connecting via wifi then expect less. Connect via Ethernet and you'll get something closer to 39mbps.

^^^ this person had ended the thread in one

There are various things it could be but it's most likely that your connection is the full 40Mbps and that something your side (like wi-fi cards) is causing the slower speed

To be fair i get a better result on my phone using speedtest site as its not sucking up any other bandwidth.

Also if your service has just been activated it might take a few days for a stable connection speed.

Thanks... I'm past the 10 days monitoring period. I have only tested over Wi-Fi. I'll give it a go with a cable in my laptop.

you cant use wifi as a reliable speed test. Test via hard wired on a PC etc

Just tested using the Xbox wired in... my results were 38 then 40 Meg. Thanks for all the advice. :D

TBH it's probably a crap router. I'm with Talk Talk and get 38meg into my house but only 20 meg over WiFi. Talk Talk admitted it's a fault with their routers over WiFi but said they hadn't another one to replace it. I got compo to buy another one of my choice or end the contract early. I think SKY only let's you use their own routers.

That tells me whatever device your using on wifi needs updating
Had this wil our laptop , max 20meg , updated and now 76meg
Although one of our tablets is only 20meg and cant update to go faster

Talk Talk have got updated firmware to improve the WiFi but but not been signed off for everyone to use. That was months ago! They just don't give a crap about their customers! This router needs replacing for a decent make instead of Huawei rubbish.

It's not my devices it's a known router problem on the forums. The HG 633 gives poor WiFi and has lots of errors. It's meant to be worse than the older model. :(
