My LG has finally boot looped and was wondering what is the process like like- have gone through LG and not with Vodafone ( place of purchase) due to my phone having a few dents and scratches will most probably be rejected repair. Phoned Lg today and are sending a courier to pick up my phone. Whilst on the phone to a very moody agent I asked if I can either get a new LG G5 as I have heard some people have been given a G5 and she said that she does not know however if I phone back when the phone has reached LG they can try and sort me out. She did mention that they only realistically give a new phone such as the G5 after 3 failed repair attempts or if the part is out of stock which I had asked if it was however she said she didn't know. Just wanted to know from you guys how is the process, how long and if anyone has got a G5 from as a replacement for their G4 which is what I want and how you guys did so. Thanks for any help guys

i sent mine off start of october and they switched out the motherboard and returned my handset back to me, so i reckon what theyve said about lack of parts etc is the only way is true. but good luck to you anyway

I sent mine back, they said it was "beyond economical repair" and offered me either a full refund or a G5. Due to the fact I bought the phone in euros from Amazon Italy and in the year that I had it the value of Sterling had plummeted, I asked for a refund and they converted the euros to pounds at 'todays' rate and I ended up actually making money (about £45) on having the phone for a year!!
(All this took about 6/8 weeks though)

Hi, My G4 boot looped earlier this year. Initial response was poor. I raised a ticket on their web site and got no response. After around 2 days I eventually ended up phoning them. They arranged a collection which happened 2 days later and then one week later received my device back. Motherboard had been changed. Since then it has been working absolutely fine.

Be warned though your phone will be returned completely factory reset as the motherboard swap is a fundamental change to the device. You will loose all data.

Same process as Markvb literally 3 weeks ago.

Yep thanks used the freezer method to backup whatsapp and onedrive however phone dies after 10 minutes so I had to be quick!

Haha, yeah the freezer method! When I first read that, I thought that someone was taking the... But it worked somewhat to back a few things up (whatsapp etc). Unfortunately I thought that my contacts were constantly being backed up to google, but they weren't, so I lost a year's worth of contact updates.
What I should also say is that before I realised that LG were now dealing with this issue, I messed about trying to install new firmware by downloading loads of different software. To be honest, I was half expecting LG to turn around and say "you're getting nothing as you've messed with the firmware" etc, but they were great.
If you are offered a refund, it's a bit of a chew to get - they send you forms to sign and return, then they only do a payment run once a month, so if you just miss that (as I did), then it's another month to wait.
With the refund, I then pre-ordered a Note 7. That didn't go well either...

Lol I thought the exact same, more worried about the phone being rejected for repair or replacement due to putting the phone in the freezer and because of the dents and scratches :(

Good luck with LG.
Had big issues with my G2, wish I had never sent it to them.. Very poor customer service,
failed on many occasions to return call backs, promised return of the phone but they were still working on it 3 days later!
Even sent a letter that was meant for me to another customer. She informed me that she had a nightmare with them ( freezer failed after 5 days and would not except the blame)
Sorted in the end but why do these company's cause so much stress!!!
Best of luck Shotz

Happened to me earlier this year. Had the repair and it worked fine afterwards. Frustrating thing was I'd forgotten to enable my scheduled backup so lost about 2 weeks of texts. That and pestering to get it collected aside (mine was an EU import so needed acceptance that my proof of purchase was valid), a relatively smooth experience. Phone returned much quicker than suggested too.

If you can blag a G5, it's an excellent phone. I just upgraded and sold my G4 for about £150 on ebay.

They have said maximum of 2 weeksoO what do you mean about the freezer or is that a spelling mistake?:|

You send them the phone with no battery and no back. Also remember to take out sim and microsd cards.

No, I didn't receive the phone back and I'm guessing if I did it would have been wiped. To be honest I was happy with the refund, seeing as though it was more than I paid for it in the first place and more than what a G5 would have cost me.
Ended up buying a Galaxy S7 Edge, quite happy with it

I bought my G4 off ebay when it was a month old. 9 months later it got a bootloop. I phoned them and filled a online form as I was getting nowhere. 2 weeks later I got a phone call from them. They asked me to send a copy of the receipt but they refused to mend as not bought direct from a supplier. Was second hand so not covered. I sold it on ebay for £75 and bought a redmi note 3 international, so worked out OK. Miss the g4 camera but nothing else

I guess that's what the buyer of my phone did. Was tempted but my dishonesty don't stretch that far

More than likely they will be picking the phone up, can anyone say what it's for?

they say that Bcos the driver will bring a bag in which you place only your handset. Sign and hand it back to be delivered to lg. Gt mine back within ten days.

Thanks mate, did they replace your motherboard ? And is that 10 working days?
#33
The whole process takes around ten days and they say that they replace the motherboard. Got my same phone back with the tempered glass protector on it. Just have to reinstall some things as google does most for you.

Thanks mate I left mine with a tempered glass screen protector in bad condition so you reckon they will change it for me?

How is the phone now, did you push for a G5/ new phone and I'm pretty sure there are listings for new serial numbers if I am not mistaken ! Thanks for the reply

Yeah i pushed quite hard for the G5 but no luck, phone is exactly the same they just swapped the motherboard over and gave it a new imei/serial.

Pretty much begged them over the phone they wouldn't cave. Then emailed proof of purchase over as i didn't want to send the original receipt were I again requested a G5 if possible. They emailed back saying it was noted on my file but no luck, my g4 came back with a new motherboard and even had my screen protector on it.

Cant fault the week turn around but locking the phone again has caused so much hassle I still cant use it.
