Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there which could spare a few minutes and give me some advise on best place to book our first family holiday abroad?

I have been to Salou and thought it was very family friendly, my children will be 3 and 8.

We are looking at traveling from North West of England.

I was looking at booking through tour operator, however price wise its looking a lot more, any ideas on reliable websites? ideas on alternatives for families other than Salou? Im looking at booking asap really.

Thank You in advance for taking the time to read this and any help will be very much appreciated.

Stuart.

P.S. Ideally All Inclusive.

Calan bosch in Menorca is brilliant for families. It was our 1st family holiday, we went back a year later. Would go back in a heartbeat. We stayed at Viva Menorca, it was beautiful, the second time we stayed at a hotel nearer the marina, I think it was called Paradise club and spa. Viva Menorca is a 15 min walk from the beach and marina and Im in ill health and it was too much for me. Shouldnt be a bother if your all well though. The buses are immaculate and a brilliant way to explore the island if you can. There are 2 waterparks nearby too. Highly reccomended.

Top hotels in Calan bosch. (We stayed at number 2 & 3).

I've always found Jet2 very reasonable and they often have offers on various holidays ,from Blackpool or Manchester . I use to book the flight ,hotel, transfer separately to save money but over the last couple of years have found the holiday companies just as cheap (but we go outside school hols ) . A good site is Travel Republic ,you can book everything on there , but have seen the flight you want (eg Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines etc) go to that site to book the flights ,luggage etc as I find booking a flight that way is cheaper than through Travel Republic . Low cost holidays another decent site for booking separate .

Kids are happy anywhere all they need is a nice pool or beach, mainland Spain is ideal it's only a 2 hour flight so you don't have to occupy them for long, I have found lanzarotte and Cyprus (protaras) to be great for kids the locals are friendly, but the flights are long and they tend to be a bit pricey compared to Spain

Have a look at Thomas Cook Aquamania or Sunsplash brochures or online. Plenty of choice out of Manchester.
With a 3 year old I'd keep the flight time below 3hrs for sanity's sake! Majorca (Alcudia or Puerto Pollensa have lovely beaches with shallow water) or Menorca are always very popular with young families.

I would recommend Turkey. More specifically Icmeler. The turks can't do enough for you and they will love your children and will keep them entertained. They will get to know your needs and will remember your names to the point that if you return next year they will treat you as long lost family. From Manchester it's about 4 hrs with an hour private transfer. Try websites such as Low Cost Holidays, On the beach, Travelrepublic and Sunmaster. Hope that helps!

i agree with turkey, look for hotels with water parks attached . flights available from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, also if you can pay the extra go all inclusive, you don't have to worry about getting the kids coke, lemonade, ice cream etc, as this soon mounts up if your buying it.. also they can drink some and if the rest goes warm by the sun loungers they can just go and get more.. the other advantage is you can try them on different foods, if you paid for something at a restaurant and they don't like it you still have to pay where all inclusive they can have lots of little bits of things.. haggle with the travel agent too, and walk out and go to a different one if you're not happy and don't be rushed .. if they say its the last room and the offer might be gone ask them to hold the price while you go and think about it ;.its a common sales technique.. good luck.

Thank You for all your help, I have never really fancied Turkey, although I only ever hear good things about it. All inclusive is a certainty I think, Any ideas on best ways to negotiate with a travel agent?

Thanks

Turkey is fantastic and has plenty to offer, Albeit a 3-4 hour flight time which tbh is only an extra hours difference from some parts of Spain.

Spain is great too, especially as it's not as long on a plane.

Weather is usually slightly warmer in Turkey but depends on which area.

Hotels in Turkey tend to have more waterslides and things than in Spain, Great for kids and adults alike.

If you're going all inclusive then the hotel is probably more important than Country as you'll be spending alot more time there.

I used to go self catering, but found All inclusive offers much better value as when you have to buy drinks etc it can become quite expensive.

I'd just find somewhere that suits your budget, Perhaps in child orientated hotel so theirs lot's for them to do.

In Turkey they have turkey rashers instead of bacon :( .

We have been to Roquetas de mar in Almeria for years, look at the Zoraida Park hotel I think it's an Aquamania hotel now. Great accommodation for families, waterslides and kids clubs. Right on beach and long flat promenade for miles, you can rent canopied bikes. Short flight and transfer times too.

I have a three year old and go to Majorca. Not too far on a plane. I stopped at Alcudia Pins Thomson family resort which has kids club, crèche, evening entertainment. I highly recommend it.

Many kids find Turkey too hot so be careful when you go if you decide on it.

Have you been recently I went about 10 years ago and had one of the most amazing holidays ever, but have been told by a few people don't go back to Turkey as it all changed and would ruin the memory.
Looking at google maps it was Mana Park (tbh can't remember what it was called at the time) we stayed at which was family run. Any food was harvested and cooked fresh, if you ordered chips or salad you would see them in there vegetable patch getting them.
Went to Joseph's most nights for a meal which lasted for hours (in the good way), go back up the hill (2/3 mile) for an Efes at the bar.

It was hot 30C+ most days so not something I would recommend for anyone with young kids, even with high SPF suncream and staying out of the midday sun I burnt pretty badly

There might not be any international flights running anymore but the airport us far from closed as you wrongly said. But what would I know, I only work there.

I love Turkey, but I'd not recommend it for younger kids for the following reasons:
Length of flight, plus many of the cheaper deals are departing about midnight local time for the return trip.
The heat in mid summer can be unpleasent for young kids, plus risk of sunburn.
However much improved, hygiene in food preparation is still a problem in many hotels, dodgy tums.
Health and safety can be an issue in resorts, hotel safety with little kids is an issue.

This doesn't apply to all hotels as there are some outstanding properties, but the chances of coming unstuck on your first family holiday are higher in Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Tunisia. If you must go to the Easter Med, consider Cyprus.

I'm glad I am wrong and you have managed to keep your job I was just going off the info on the site and as the OP was asking about foreign holidays it isn't much use to her unless she wants a pleasure flight around the tower :p
