Would appreciate any tips and pointers.

Tried the usual suspects i.e., skyscanner, lastminute, netflights.

You really needed to be looking before now. We goto Florida for 4 weeks every August and it gets more difficult every year to get resonable priced flights to the US but offers do still come and go, most of the time they are like you say £700+ but the odd offer comes up like I saw for friends a few week back, they are flying out similar dates to us this August for £380pp.
Last August I flew Business class indirect cheaper than Virgin economy. Year before Biz class again, price error at £470pp
Main sites I use

Good luck.

£380 in Aug is a steal! I'.ve been looking every day since mid of last month, but haven't spotted anything under 700. Initially was going to use Airmiles, but in peak season it's impossible to find flights with airmiles.

Just checked it was 4th March when I text my friend the £380 offer, not seen anything like that since, I always start looking 11 months out, usually book between 6-8 month out, scheduled flights usually get more expensive when you get as close as this.
I have about 250,000 Virgin miles, struggle to use them these days, had some great deals 3-4 years ago but they are struggling so don't give the deals they did.

Where are you flying from? Sometimes it works out cheaper to get a flight to one of the hub airports (JFK, Chicago etc) then get a local flight to your destination using Jet Blue or someone similar. I tend to use Kayak.co.uk when booking flights these days.

Either Heathrow or Gatwick. I've tried various combinations of flying into Chicago, Indianapolis, JFK, Newark, Boston and catching a regional flight to Cincinnati, but they're all still coming up over 700.

We go to Florida for 4 weeks every August

I love Florida (in fact I love travelling around the USA and have been to about 44 of the 50 states over the years), but just a genuine question - don't you ever feel like going anywhere else? :p
(though your avatar tells me you're a big fan of Disney/Mickey, though he also exists in Anaheim and Tokyo ya know... 8))

We do go elsewhere, we are fortunate enough to be able to afford upto 4 holidays abroad each year, been to LA/Anahiem a few times, Vegas, New York etc.
Our trips to Florida are not always theme parks(although we do love them) in Feb we did St Augustine, Titusville(shuttle launch) Clearwater, Port Canaveral etc.
This August will be our 25th visit to Florida, want to go back more than ever, this time taking relatives for their 1st visit, we are doing a hotair balloon flight, parasailing, cruise, meeting friends from North Carolina, others from LA.
I can have free(flight cost only) holidays in Spain, Turkey or Egypt where Brother owns property but none interest me just now, we are enjoying the States, maybe go back to beach holidays when I retire, if there is any money left.:)

How about into Canada, Toronto. Current deal is £199-00 (HUKD). Another way is to route out of say Paris, Lisbon, Amsterdam. How about into, say, Buffalo......and then get a train or Greyhound.
One other method I use is to work backwards. Go to Cin. airport website and see what carriers use the airport, and then look at their websites.
