I am looking for the address of a person in Glasgow who is not listed on any of the white pages services. Some sites claim that they have an address of him on the electoral roll search, but unfortunately none of the sites I have found which offer electoral roll searches are free.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a free way to look up persons on electoral rolls, or, alternatively, if someone here might have access already to one of the pay-sites and would be willing to do a free search for me? (If so, send me a private message and I'll give you his name.)

You could try www.192.com

Thanks, but unfortunately 192.com charges £9.95 for credits to see the results of electoral roll searches.

I just typed in John Smith Glasgow & came up with addresses

The "free directory enquiries" are indeed free, but if you scroll down to the electoral roll results you will see that adresses are written "JOHN SMITH XXXX X/X X XXXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXX XX XX". You have to pay to get rid of the Xs and see the address. The person I'm looking for is not listed in the free directory, only on the electoral roll.

BTW says if you register with 192 you get free credits. Just set up a new email address so you don't get rubbish.
Just found this http://www.b4usearch.com/electoral-roll.html

This might help http://www.saa.gov.uk/annualcanvass.html

In that case I guess the only option is a visit to the local library (if you happen to live in the area):-(

I'd suggest http://www.b4usearch.com/ too.... just pop details into the fields on the right bottom of the page...
#10
Does anyone else find it scary that all these details are available on the internet? Or am I being paranoid?:?
#11
Suze, I agree.... altho most sites will remove your details if you contact them and request it...

Again you only get a feed to a site where you have to pay for the address to be revealed. This only gives you a list of names.
You will get more from a phone book than this rubbish.

Tony, its not rubbish... the links are provided as the site is currently updating to the newest data.... they input this by area so if you wait an hour or so then you'll find the info available...
#14
sorry when I seen the updating electol register thought it was a scam to use other named sites

a branch off the main subject - but along the same lines:

is there anywhere free online you can get copies of old birth / death certificates?

my nan is currently doing the family tree and she has very little information regarding her nans and grandads so shes trying to look it up.

We are signed up to genes reunited etc, but just thought I'd ask on the offchance someone might know of a site that provides this kind of service cheaply or freely.

I got it to trace my Missus's Foster Parents, worked a treat. I'm guessing Ull is Hull?/ Quite a good night on the beer down at the waterfront is it? Then Tower for an Hour (closed now I know).
