FreeSat advice please

Ive got a SkyPlus contract coming to an end on Saturday and not renewing it and need some advice please on the best option to make use of the dish etc. I really liked the sky pause live tv/record options and did hope to just buy a freesat box. But as my TV is a very old Thomson one I will need to eventually buy a digital one. Just don't know whether to buy a new TV with in-built Freesat or hang off in case the prices come down, and meantime just buy a freesat box.

Here is the 3 options I've found so far -

TV with built-in Freesat £499.99 (no recorder?)
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...SAT.htm#tabrev

Freesat recorder £199.99
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...T+RECORDER.htm

Freesat HD box £67.39 Bush Black Freesat (Looks like the price has went up again)
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...7C14419634.htm

Not found a deal for TV with built-in Freesat recorder yet but I'm guessing it will be too expensive.

Any advice on what you would consider would be best option for me - much appreciated. I've reserved the Argos Bush Black Freesat just in case!

you can ask sky to send you a freesat card for your current sky box, however i dont know if the recording will still work

edit

just checked and you cant use the record

You can just use the box as it is to get the free channels. The card will continue to work but the option to record will be switched off. This is what i'm away to do and the difference between the channels you get this way and with Freesat isn't that big to be honest - very similar. Freesat from sky does have more channels but probably the ones that nobody watches lol.

Thanx for that yes I did read a thread somewhere about those cards costs around £20 might be a good option even if I can't record as I feel sure the Freesat TVs will come down in price soon. I just don't want to go back to 5 boring stations after having Sky+ !!

think you have the option of 10/month for using the +facility on its own.
or like you said a freesat recorder would be needed.

when you phone to cancel with sky you should say that you don't want the extra channels anymore and are going with a freesat recorder, they may offer you a reduced sub, worth a try ;-)

I've already cancelled Sky it will finish tomorrow. Here is the link to the Sky £20 card deal offer not sure how this works but does this mean after tomorrow the viewing card in the box won't work and if I want to get more channels I should purchase this Sky Card??

Just bought the card costs £19.57 will last for 3 years this at least will give me time to see how the prices go for purchasing a new TV . Was given a telephone number to call when I receive it between 3-5 days, to activate it.

Thanx for your posts much appreciated.

I was under the assumption (I may be corrected) that the card you already have would just have its $ky channels deactivated. It should revert to a Free To View card. If it does you have just spent £19.57 unnecesarily. :x

I hope not they said that I will have a lot more channels 240 to view from using this card, if not I have 8 days to change my mind after receiving card. Will find out tomorrow what I can view when SkyPlus finishes and then compare in a few days time when I receive card so here's hoping it's not been a waste of time!!

your current card will carry on working for up to 4 years as a freesat card you DO NOT need to purchase 1 & also the card is only there for channel 5 , fiver , fiver usa & sky 3

At least you have time to check out what you can still get. Bet you'll return the new card!
