I'm considering buying one for my folks and have a budget of around £100. Requirements are:

* Simple to use
* Twin tuner
* Reliable firmware! (most around this price range don't seem to have this)
* 80GB storage (or more)
* Pausing / rewinding live TV whilst recording
* Reasonable looks

Btw, I've taken a look at the ones currently in the deals section below this price and all sound terrible based on their reviews. So I'm looking forward to hearing some recommendations based on what people have actually used and liked.

Thanks in advance...

I think the only type your gonna get are the Argos branded/Unbranded ones. I was also on the lookout for one of these around that price and couldnt find a decent one.

Will be good to see what other ppl have to say though.

Put the extra money to it and get the humax.

At your budget, the Thomson would appear to be the best option, I agree with the comments re; the Humax.

The Thomson's terrible according to the reviews I've found. Have looked at the Humax but I think you're looking at nearer £150 for one of them, but I know they're supposed to be decent.

Thanks for the tips so far!

Big Pockets have one for £49.99, refurbished but mint condition and a great bargain. Link below:

I have the Thomson DTI6300 and it does indeed have a few problems. It is noisy all the time as it is permanently recording which allows you to go back by up to half an hour before you even hit record but I can't find a way to turn it off. It has frozen a few times and lost the signal completely which needs it to be powered off and on. It hasn't missed any recordings and the series link works well.

However does anyone know of another freeview recorder that has the card slot (for setanta) that is quieter and doesn't lock up as I want one for the bedroom. Is there such a thing as one that has hard disk & DVD recording so I can save the ones I want to keep / share.

Only had the Thomson for a few weeks so if I can find a better alternative I may return it and get two of the others.

Any help appreciated
Paul.

Luck of the draw, I have the Thomson, mine is fine.

All of these receivers appear to have some form of fault built in to them, the Humax just seems to have less of them.
