My 9 year old daughter is distraught after receiving her no1 top Christmas list gift...

A Furby Boom...She was over the moon when she received it Christmas morning..

Half an hour in she is complaining of a high pitched noise coming from here newly loved friend and is frightened to touch or go near it in fear of it making "The high pitched noise" I have now removed the batteries but she is sooooo upset as she wants to play!!..

Has anyone else experienced this? btw we can't hear it?...Would love to know...

First I thought it was faulty but after googling the instructions say "A high pitched noise may be heard from time to time due to the Furby wanting to communicate with other Furby's" (we only have 1) so we have no need for the communication side...but it emits it anyway... So guessing this is not a fault?

Really bazaar and can't understand why no one else is complaining obout the noise, it has really affected my daughter?...strange?..

Please respond if you have heard of anything, many thanks in advance.

Have you tried new good quality alkaline batteries?.
#2
C'est bizarre!
#3
some frequencies adults cant hear so would be interesting to know if its related
#4
Are you absolutely, positively, 100% sure that there isn't a small mouse trapped inside?
#5
What a weird complaint. Will keep my eyes peeled to this thread!!!!! oO
#6
Only a guess, but could you put your furby in front of another one on youtube for it to hear, talk to? it will not get any replies but it might keep it quiet.
#7
It may just be that your daughter has very sensitive hearing, and is more aware of high frequency noises, have you tried letting another child around her age listen to it and see if they can hear the noise?
#8
Thank you all for your reply's...

It effects both of my daughters 9 + 12 year old they both can hear it and say "Turn it off daddy" but my 3 and 5 year old boy's it has no effect...I can even turn it on upstairs and here them complaining downstairs instantly, Really strange??

I have tried two sets of brand new batteries (not Duracell tho?) but good quality ones we have had no complaints with in the past running cameras, harmony remotes, RC stuff etc so can't see it will be the batteries...

I'll try the YouTube thing?....

Like I said many thanks for your reply's, off to get some Duracell :D

Q There is a high pitched tone coming from Furby and/or my iOS device.
A The noise you are hearing is how Furby communicates with the mobile device and other Furbys. Some people may hear it, others will not. Some animals may also hear the noise.Don't worry, the tone will not cause any harm to people or animals

My daughter got one for xmas too. Not noticed any noises other than when it's 'communicating' with the app.
Maybe you could try exchanging it for another and see if maybe you just have a faulty one??

you have already said your boys can't hear it, so your girls are probably sensitive to the frequency it emits

Take it back and get another, at least then you'll know if the one you have is faulty.

So this has been answered clearly already. It emits the sound that some people can hear and others cant. Its normal for the toy. Therefore your girls can hear it but there is nothing you can do. As a TWELVE year old and a nine year old are so highly emotional over this, I suggest you explain the situation to them clearly and if they are still "freaked out", and "distraught" then ask your nine year old what toy she would rather have and take the furby back to wherever you bought it from.

That is how things stand, youre not going to receive the solution you want i.e. make the sound stop.

Thanks, We have boxed up ready to do this but don't want to upset my daughter by bringing another home that will do the same, If I hadn't of read that "It's Normal" as Hasbro say then I wouldn't hesitate thinking it is faulty, But they say it's Normal so reluctant to do this and drag up another day of being upset (she has nearly forgotten about it, for now)...

Hence why I would like to find out more about the issue we are experiencing... Thanks all!!!...

I just made my daughter (6) play with her's and I asked her if she could hear any noises other than it talking. She said she couldn't so perhaps you do just have a faulty one??

Yep!!! And thanks for your honesty, I totally agree, Thanks...It's just hard when it is her no 1 toy for Christmas, as a father we try to do the best for our children so was hoping to find a solution but like you say I don't think it's going to happen :(

Ah That's really good of you,Lol Thanks for that....... Guessing it's just my children then/or faulty?.

Thanks all, I will keep the thread updated and let you know what we decide.....

Hiya, have you tried the reset button, it's on the base and quite tiny, might need pressing in a couple of times ( our furby stopped working, and this got it going again) just something else to try, hope you get it sorted x
#22
Thanks rangel yes we have... Even a hard reset which you include holding down its tongue too, lol...

We have two of these and neither of our kids can hear any high pitched noises. I'd recommend trying another before giving up on them altogether.

@ mxer450 - don't feel alone - my daughter has the same problem. We have 2 furbys, a furbling and the furby boom app. All 4 items make the noise. I tested it at my work and no one over 28 could hear the noise but both guys that are under that age could hear it. One of them doesn't play video games and he has the same skin crawling, uber creepy reaction to it that my daughter has. The other guy plays lots of video games and can hear the noise but isn't as annoyed as the my daughter or the other guy. I'm worried that it is targeting children to desensitize them or to cause mental issues. It's very weird and super creepy. If I turn it on secretly, my child screams from the other end of the house and goes running out. My co-worker says it feels almost like an electric shock to his leg and head and makes his skin crawl. This is a huge issue and makes me really question Hasbro for producing these things and not fixing this problem.

The same thing happened to my daughter (10) but with the app and the furby?!
