Gaming PC

Hi
Could anyone advise me on a decent base/tower only, to play all the latest games. My son plays those war strategy games and the newest says we aren't good enough.(only 2 years old:-( ) Anyway it says my graphics caard isn't up to it and when I went to local shop, the owner wanted me to buy a new tower for £700 saying only the dvd drives would be any use if I was to upgrade. A bit steep I thought because all I need extra is to play these games:x

Cheers

Andy

u could build a gaming beast for like £500 maybe even less

and this will indeed play anything u throw at it

since u dont need monitor and probably other accessories

then it should be quite cheap

have a look at www.pcnextday.co.uk as they have a £500 base unit that has been recommended by Computer Shopper as an excellent gaming PC.

If your just looking for a games PC look for an Alienware desktop, they might be dear but worth every penny, wow!!

Id personally go for a destop that can do everything coz you aint just going to use it for games as you will prob have the internet etc.

How is an Alienware worth very penny?

As long as you have a good graphics card & loads of memory, you should be ok !!

It's a sensible idea, though not ideal given the high interest in strategy games which consoles don't exactly cater for.

Fair enough recommending an alienware as theyre good, but the OP stated that a local shop quoted him £700 which he thought was a bit steep. How is recommending an alienware going to be within his budget?

I reckon currychop's suggestion of the base unit from pcnextday is the best deal you are likely to find for that kind of money. A really well specced base unit. go for it

Very pleased with my PCNextday laptop I bought a couple of months ago. I found their site by accident and felt I was taking a chance - especially given no one could similarly spec a laptop for the price.

Their customer service seems very good, though it might take a couple of days to get a reply they don't fob you off with generic answers and genuinely seem to take the time to assess the problem and write a personal email.

It does sound like playground banter if it's not sarcasm though :)

ALDI have a pc coming up very soon, which is based on Intel Core Duo.

Based on previous experience, this should be a good system and i'd expect a price around £700.
#18
By the way, what is your current spec ?

You may just need a few cheap upgardes.

another site to look at is this one

slightly over budget but the 469 Texas looks a belter for a gaming PC

The OP hasnt been back on since last night, do you think we should go wake him up lol
#21
Yes indeed. That 7900GS should be able to handle anything most games can throw at it.

Just got back in from work(I'm on a shutdown), but thanks for all the replies. I wasn't really clear, but what I want is to know exactly what type of graphics card, ram, hdd etc I need to get, as I am a real technophobe. Sorry
