getting married in new york, what's the best way to pay for it all?

hi, I've just got engaged, and we've decided to get married in new york, have a few days there and then fly to san Diego and hire a camper van for the honeymoon.
the thing is, we've akso just bought our first home, and are doing it up, so funds are tied to the house. I know we need to book something this year (it's going to be next September) so what's the best way to pay for it all? do we take out a loan? or just wing it and book it closer to the time, when we will have a bit more saved? what did other people do for their wedding?

We went to Sri Lanka and paid by credit card which we kept transferring to zero intrrest providers until it was paid off. You do pay a small transfer fee but it's much cheaper than taking out a loan. I wish you every happiness!

Yep. I've been. Took my friend who's from New York for a few photos on our way to the east cost. :)

Well Canada is a bit far but I'll checkout the Durham one if I head up North. :)

OP think about your wedding guests. New York is expensive while you are there and to get too. If you can't find anywhere in the UK you like how about somewhere in Europe?

I would suggest to you start from getting camper van, have a trip and than if you will survive together you should find best solution.

How about registering on a home swap site, see if you can swap with someone in New York as a base for your wedding, keep accomodation costs down. Camper (RV) hire will be pretty much the same whenever you book but my suggestion is to book it online using a US site or better still get a friend/relative who is a US resident to book it from there. Prices for flights to US are lowest they've been for at least 10 years so I'd say book the flights now and pay via credit card or ask family and friends for the wedding presents 'up front' as cash gifts towards the honeymoon. Good luck.

we are only inviting a handful of people, we aren't having a masdive wedding with a reception and stuff.
It's not the cost of everything, as it works out cheaper than most weddings, it's just the fact we have to book everything now. we don't want to wait years to save up.
Thanks for all the feedback though everyone :-)

might want to ask your guests now if they are prepared to pay £1000+ each to go to your wedding before planning and booking things

expect to spend around £5000 for what you plan to do.

it's all sorted, they are happy to pay for things, we are paying for the flights and hotel for them (there is only 4 other people going). so they've just got to sort out spending money. the wedding itself is only around £1000 (Central park) and then it's sorting out a nice restaurant afterwards.
my maye works for a travel company so I can get discount there for the campervaning.

Ignore negativity. Sounds like a cool thing you plan to do.
