Consider what causes the limescale?

Our water supply for years destroyed many kettles, two immersion heater elements, 3 showers because of the calcium in the water supply.

We purchased one of those electronic coil things that wrap around the cold water supply just above the stopcock (main tap) and since there's been no great issues.

Just to add
Depends also where the scale is as to what can be used - we previously used Polti Steam Cleaner (not the hand held type) around taps and toilet bowl to blast off the scale

cillit bang

Viakal.

I find this is best. Spray on limescale then leave for a few minutes to soak then use a scouring pad. Final wipe with wet cloth to give the shine :)

Lemon Juice or Viakal

My dad uses powdered citric acid.

50 50 water and bleach in a spray bottle, plenty of scrubbing. Open a window while you do this.

Domestos Zero Toilet Limescale Remover - its often in Poundland. It works on everything including plastic showers and kettles etc - use it all the time.

Works just as well as viakal and a third of the price (£1 for 750ml)

Have viakal, cillit bang etc but were not very effective at all. Then tried item below, removed limescale while I watched and only took minutes. Does not drip off like the others or disappear without cleaning. Apply with sponge or cloth, it foams up and sticks to the item you need to clean and then just rinse off. Removed all limescale and only used approx. 5-10 ml. This bottle should last me years.

Was sceptical but for £4 I gave it a try and it is fantastic.

Squirt a good amount of washing up liquid in a spray bottle then fill with vinegar. Spray on limescale, leave overnight and rinse. I find this works for me. Be careful if using in bath because it's slippery till you rinse it away. Good luck and let me know if it worked.

Harpic do very good limescale removers, only £1 too, can also vouch for Viakal - Cilit bang is useless.

Op = time waster?

Waitrose own make limescale remover is excellent.

Sainsburys own brand limescale remover is also fantastic. Don't leave it in polished chrome for long as will discolour. Make sure to rinse thoroughly
