Hi all,

my first post on this forum. My neice is looking for GHD Wide Hair straighteners for Xmas. I've found that they don't supply these direct to any of the main retailers, eg John Lewis, Boots etc, and only sell direct or through smaller hairdressers etc. I've found them online for about 87.00, but wondering if anyone can help me find a cheaper option.

my gf also wants hair straighteners, why they are so dear I will never understand.... BUT.... would a 17 year old want these? Is there a big diference in brands, etc?
#2
I wouldn't personally buy them from ebay, i have found them for about £87 but they are showing out of stock.

http://www.jasonshankey.co.uk/dsp_ProductDetails.cfm/product_key/1505/size_key/1636/GHD_Professional_Ceramic_Salon_Styler_-_Wide_plates.html

Tesco direct sell them too ......and they are in stock

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-6311.aspx

They are £94.99 but there are lots of clubcard points on that one too.

I know its not cheaper than the £87 you found but its not ebay. Tesco will sort out any problems for you no worries and if you do collect clubcard points thats not a bad amount to get back.

Good luck in finding the one you want! :santa:

There are 3 sizes i use the medium size. I dont like the wide plates my sister has those and they dont do it right on my hair. and the small ones are for mens or short ladies hair.

Ghd are the best brand..i'm sure there are lots that are as good but i have used my ghd's for more than 3 years. Worth the £105 i spent on mine.

The medium one's can be bought from Jasonshankey for £79.95 and are in stock....dont forget Quidco

http://www.jasonshankey.co.uk/dsp_ProductDetails.cfm/product_key/165/size_key/169/GHD_Hair_Straighteners.html

And if its not GHD's you want there is a thread in hot deals section for these lovely pink ones for £35.00 instore only at superdrug.

Hey Becky,

Like you say, i'd rather *not* buy from ebay either - Tesco are a bit more 'reputable' when it comes to returns etc - now i wonder if there are any vouchers anywhere for tesco discounts :)

Thanks for the heads up :)

#8
i want to buy my sisters these

im a boy so lost a little

are these the top dogs in hair straightners?

£100 seems good
#9
GHD are the dogs privates i've heard.
#10
GHD's are amazing, i borrow my mums, shame i dont live there :giggle:

And they are the dogs bits as such, thats why there like £80 :geek:
#11
GHD are 'one of' the best yes, most people can't tell much difference between them and other good quality pairs which can run a lot cheaper.

You can definitely tell the difference between them and anything less than say £50 RRP.

Artemis

Possible alternative (Which I can recommend, my bh and her sister have these and love them - one has the wide, one has the normal)...

im considering those. have you got personal experience with this brand? would you have paid £35 for them?

I 'did' pay £35 for them. When I say my bh has them I mean my bh has them but I paid for them ;)

They both love them, had them about 2 months so far and no complaints.

:) I've just bought a set of standard GHD's for the wife from tesco's direct and they are £89....I admit that they aren't the cheapest ones I found (jason shankey stock then at around £80) but with treble points on offer at the minute and a bonus 500 points using vouchers found on here, that gives me £32 pounds worth of clubcard deal vouchers! £89 minus £32 worth of vouchers = a bargain!!!!

ive just ordered the GHD's xmas gift set @ £138.99

Tom_Rayner....
I have bought my daughter some straighteners for xmas, I would love to be able to get her some GHD's as I have heard they are ''the best'', unfortunately they don't fit my budget. :-(
Anyway,
I decided on this Remington gift set, which consists of wide digital straighteners and small 'fringe' straighteners, DVD, heat protection pouch and a lovely suede box, reduced to £30 from £50. :)

why not try this website for a pair of GHDs at a more reasonable price. I bought a pair of GHDs for my daughters birthday from a shop on ebay. Within the year my daughter twisted the cable and it broke. i just had to pay for the cable to get replaced which was £23 although they sent a brand new unit. My hubby had tried to fix them himself. If he hadn't they would have replaced them free of charge. try this similar website :santa: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Salon-Net-Shop

Jamella ltd the makers/suppliers of GHD's would have repaired that free of charge for you. They repaired mine with the same fault and mine were 2 and a half years old!!

For all those who have GHD's-especially those who have had them longer than the 1 years manufacturer guarantee the following datails will be of great use to you should your GHD's develop faults. Always tell the customer service assistant that you don't believe your GHD'S are fit for the purpose they were sold for!!!!

Jemella Ltd - on 0845 3301133

Please have your serial number (found by the On/Off switch) ready before calling.

Becky - remember I asked you for these details a while back for my little sis, as her's had broke.

Well she sent them off, they were fixed and returned, but got lost in the post. She had to wait 3 weeks, but they sent her out a brand new pair FOC :)

Cheers hun

I've bought a pair for my girlfriend - they are GHD 3.1 but I'm worried as there are GHD 4.0. Can someone explain the difference between them and if there is really a big difference. I would like some ammo just in case she is a bit disappointed as I think she wanted the 4.0

It was Jamella i got them from. If hubby had not touched them ( classed as third party repair) i would have got it done free. I will know another time though.

All GHD's are the same - potentially.

Each new model number I.E. mark 0.4 just means that as time goes by a new fault has been found on that type so they change the wire on it or use a different type of fuse so they change the model number on it. They don't do anything different as i have said before mine are the original ones almost 4 years old and i have only had 1 fault with them which happened 2 and a half years after i bought them. They are playing up a little now so im going to send them in for a once over! My last repair was free of charge, and i have been advised that this one will be too!!

They all do the same thing, im sure your O/H will be thrilled that you got her a pair. :-D

ok, so after much running about and being let down by one retailer, I've had to try and find another supplier - a bit of digging around, and i've found the following deals -

FunkyGroup

http://www.thefunkygroup.co.uk/cat-3-subcat-9-product-123

£86.00 plus 2.00 p&p - 88.00 with next day delivery.

not bad!

Even better, but needs more legwork, is through salonlines.co.uk;

Salonlines
You would need to get a friend colleague etc who is already registered with salonlines ( no purchase necessary ) , to refer you as a friend. You both get 10% discount on the first order, as a result of this.

Refer a friend here :
http://www.salonlines.co.uk/friend/

The normal price at salonlines is £89.95 plus 3.95 p&p which equals: £93.90

http://www.salonlines.co.uk/forwomen/index.php?p=1&category_id=410&product_id=260

With the 10% discount, this price comes in at £84.51.

This is for the wide plate straighteners, which tend to be the most expensive in the GHD range - the others will tend to be cheaper than this.

Hope this helps someone.

:) I was bragging previously about the price I'd paid from tesco direct, however when I went to wrap them up i noticed that the security seal on teh box had been opened. i took them back and what I didn't realise is that when you take items back to Tescos they don't take your clubcard points back!!! In light of this I ordered another pair and got triple points again (another 270) so all in all I have ended up with about 1000 points equal to £40.......what a bargain. You can't get cheap ones for this price, she will be happy! :santa:
banned#35
From what I hear Remington are good as GHD.
#36
Thats good to hear Repo, the Remington set I bought for my daughter are supposed to be Salon quality so hears hoping they last.
She has some Babyliss at the moment that have been used so much they look ancient, but still were very good, she spends so much time in the mirror with her straighteners you would think they are attached to her hand.
I remember when I was a teen in the 80's, there was none of this straightening malarky (unless you used an Iron and Ironing board), I had a big perm that only took a tin of mousse a day to sort out :giggle:

Explain your calculation. When I worked for the Great Satin, one clubcard point was worth a penny.

if you're buying from ebay, use the seller 'shimmer girl', had 4 pairs now,(1 for me, 3 for other people), if you order before 3PM, you get them next day:-D

As many people would no doubt agree the worst thing you can spend the clubcard points on is groceries etc in Tesco's as they are as you explain worth a tiny 1 pence each but if you change them for vouchers ie clubcard deals they become worth four times teh face value.........these can then be used for anything from days out, dining out etc etc....hope this explains my ramblings!!
