Alright well, I am looking for a new television for my bedroom- a 42-inch television or similar size is what I am looking for..

I haven't bought a TV for a few years so just want peoples advice..

Been looking at this http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia-kdl42w7-led-hd-1080p-smart-tv-42-with-freeview-hd/p1169287

Not sure if this is good for gaming, if there are better TVs out there for less or if this is standard price. But yeah, that's the kind of television I am looking to buy.. I would appreciate any advice you guys have for me

I would look for one which isn't smart if you are only using it for ps3 gaming to be honest. I could find a nice 50" tv for the price of that Sony, so it's a bit overkill in my opinion

If it's only a gaming tv I would advise you to look for something a lot smaller eg. I tried playing black op 2 on a 40inch tv and my k/d was 1.16 after a few matches and then I tried it on a smaller 24inch tv and my k/d was 2.68 after a few matches but it is down to you to be honest

Try Richer Sounds, they do 5 year guarantees as well as JL.

I play on a 50" tv and I prefer that compare to a small tv.
If its a big tv you can sit far back and still enjoy the game and if its a small tv you will always have to sit next to the tv.which affects the eyes as well.

I will be using it for other things too, but I was thinking if I really needed Smart since I can do it all on my PS4. I have been trying to look but all the TV's I like feature Smart so they are priced more.

Hmm..

Got to be Sony. (You have already picked the best current 42 inch gaming tv)

For gaming there is nothing better at the moment

I just ordered the KDL42W705B , which is the same as the one you are looking at (the 706 means it has a silver edge instead of black the full model number of yours is KDL42W706B)

As you can see the top 7 tvs for input lag (gaming) are all sony.
