Good laptop for playing The Sims (don't judge!)

Ok, so a silly question.

Daughter and I like to play The Sims 3. My old Packard Bell has died, so would like to buy a new one for this purpose (and work, I suppose!)

I have genuinely no idea what to look for and would ideally not just go for the "the more expensive, the better"- although it probably makes sense!

What should I look out for? Heard of the graphics card having to be decent etc, what parameters (or whatever the name) are the minimum for it to run in a fairly smooth way?

What are your experiences?

Thanks for any help!

The back of the game should give you a good idea of the minimum spec to look for.
I'd always advising going for at LEAST the recommended system requirements rather than the minimum for a better gaming experience. View the 'GD Adjusted Requirements' here for the Sims 3:
Just check here for the minimum Specs and anything over these will be good to go:

or go here and check before you buy something to see if it will work.

Even an intel 4400 integrated card (cheapest option) manages to hit a frame rate of 140 when playing sims 4 at a resolution of 1024x768. I'm sure it can easily manage sims 3.

You can get a decent laptop with an i3 processor and a 4400 graphics card for £300.
Thanks everyone, it was my plan to go for the recommended settings, the thing is the requirements are for the game alone, not for the game combined with several expansion packs - was wondering if anyone experienced their laptop being painfully slow when loaded with quite a few of them ;) as ideally would like to avoid this! Oh well, I'll just hope for the best :D
