Hi all,

I need some advice on hair straighteners to buy for my girlfriend.

I have had a look at reviews and they seem to suggest GHDs are the best, but it seems like the quality has gone down recently.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Many Thanks,

ghds are great ive had some for 4 yrs with no probs

I've had ghd for about 10 years. Best model I always go back to is mark iv or 4.1. Don't waste your money on any gift sets though the hair dryers aren't that great.

GHD's all the way. Bought a Mark 5 or something for the Missus and she was over the moon.

I have had ghds for about 10 years too.
Very very good!
As a back up, I also have some corioliss which are also very good (with the added bonus of a variable heat control).

2005? You realise it is 2016 now, some 11 years after that Best Buy? Or was it a typo?

I use Ghd and Cloud 9, both do their job well xx

was told by my wife before buying that cloud 9 are better than the new ghds. About £100 should cover it, though I bought the wide plate version.

The old ghds are apparently better than newer ones.

Thanks for all the advice, it seems to confirm what I have found... Earlier I came to the conclusion it was between

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloud-Nine-Original-Iron-Straightener/dp/B00454UDBS/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1475608411&sr=8-1&keywords=cloud+nine

and

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ghd-G0-12MK4UK-IV-Styler/dp/B000CSLJDW/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1475608536&sr=8-1&keywords=ghd+iv

I am worried by some of the negative reviews, but I guess the majority are the result of fakes or the minority of faulty units and since I would get direct from Amazon/Reputable dealer hopefully wouldn't have that problem.

But would I be better getting wide plate ones, what would be the advantage?

The wife has had expensive GHD before all of them broke.
She got a pair of babyliss from argos for £40 with 3 year warranty still going strong after 3 year and does exactly the same as the GHDs.

I've got ghd but prefer my wet 2 straight babyliss cheapy set (i use on dry hair).
#13
Personally I won't use anything other than my GHD's but yes, the original ones, the limited editions just don't seem to be as good. I'm sure she'll be thrilled with either though :D

Wide plates are for long hair, buy normal ones if she has above shoulder length or has a fringe xx

I've had a GHD for 8yrs now wide plate and older model 4 excellent as i have thick wavy hair...doesn't damage hair as much either.

Totally agree about new ghds not being as good, heard good things about cloud 9 tempted to switch. Wide plate are not so good for roots/ fringe etc as to big

I bought my other half a set of straightners and the hairdryer a few years after, both she uses almost daily. No complaints. and she had a cheap (probably knock off) set of GHD's prior. The difference if night and day. Yes they're expensive but warranty and quality are second to none.

my missus is a hairdresser, will only use ghd's
