Any idea of how to get one if you're not in the trade? I see people using one even though they are not in the trade! How is that possible?

Cheers

But I bet you don't qualify. I do not. Someone else may have a better idea.......

Best of luck.

doesn't look like they give it to any tom, dick or harry though, you need some proof that you're a mechanic or something like that! shame cos i'd love to get 20% discount on a magic tree and some neons for my Metro!!!!!

Buying parts from Halfrauds is a mugs game, get them direct from motor factors and save the markup. A good online site that I use for my bits is : http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/

Halfords trade is quite often cheaper than a factor, and if not, they will price match. and they are open till 8pm, and they are open on a weekend. yup, gotta be a mug to get trade parts at 10am on a sunday lol.
to get a trade card, pop into a store and speak to someone at the parts desk, chances are they will wing you one.

i can assure you that you will not find cheaper than using this trade card especially for general vehicle serviceing ( air filters/oil filters plugs etc ) also very cheap bulbs. you also get discount on their tools, especially good on their professional range.
i have a card because i have mechanical/engineering quals. im not in the trade. all i had to do was go down the store and show my certs.
ive saved an absolute fortune:thumbsup:

ps. top tip, find a friend who has some. borrow them and use your imagination on photoshop if you know what i mean

What sort of discount do you get on tools, out of interest? And Shane, definately got to be a mug buying car parts on a sunday, at any price LOL.

So whats the discount on tools then? I do like the nice shiny pro range.:-D

I think its something like 20% on the pro tools. I want a card because of the cheap parts, cant be beaten by any motor factors when they take off up to 80% of the normal markup. Half price on their batteries, Service items/bulbs 80% off I do a lot of work on cars but most factors are never open on Sundays and you have to wait the next day to get it! Its well worth having, but so far have never managed to blag one. Even walking in dishevelled and covered in oil doesn't work! lol

there is no set discount ie 10% or 20% etc on the shiny pro range. it all depends on how much and what tools you buy. the only way to find out the discount is to pick them off the shelf and take them to the trade counter.
lets call it a mystery discount:roll:
strange i know but a discount is a discount
#11
yup, discount varies wildly. i have seen toolboxes with almost 50% off, tools are roughly 20% but it varies. and bulbs are silly prices
#12
Yup i,ve had anything from nothing off to 90% off. ie 7p off a £30 tool (non halfords brand) to £2.21 off a £2.49 bulb set.

Also NO Discount on Alloys, Neons, GPS etc etc for those who might be thinking you do.

If you can prove your trade, or qualified engineer etc, or can provide £100's of receipts from motorfactors (in your name) then you can get one. I got mine through being a chemical engineer, and my friend one through being an aircraft mechanic.
