What can I use that's safe? It'll be touching the hard drive itself so I need to make sure it's safe. Thanks

No it needs something to cushion it so it stops rocking around

Use 3 old plastic sim cards as a spacer.

What type of caddy are you using ? I've never seen one where you tape a drive inside. It should be a snug fit. Hard drives should only be mounted from their screw mountings unless it's an SSD and you velcro them anywhere.

It's an external caddy

You could buy some self adhesive strips or little circular foam pads?
