Has Anyone Had any Experiences with Anglian Windows?

We have been thinking about having a conservatory put on the back of our house and someone from Anglian has just knocked the door. Has anyone on here used them before, what's their reputation like?
Thanks

Anglian managers have been out, who to be honest aint got a clue, Anglian service engineers who say "this door should never of left the warehouse.. you been done mate". 2 and half years this has been going on anglian still not doin nothing. Now taken them to the ombudsman. the 10yr guarantee means 10yrs of hassle..

We got a quite from them a couple of years ago for new double glazing but decided not to go with them due to the price. They were nearly double compared to the quote of a local firm so of course we went for the local firm to save some cash. We made the mistake of giving anglian our landline phone number and we still hear from them now 2 years later, they seriously hound you so be sure not to give them your telephone number unless you are definately going to use them

I had a guy round 18 months ago. His quote for our 3 bed semi, started at £14,000 - and was down to £6,200 at the end of the (long) evening - providing we took out HP (and paid it back straight away.)

We used something online - window quoter I think it was called - and had 3 more quotes. They were £5,800, £5,600 and £4,200

The cheaper one's windows I wasnt impressed with, so ruled them out. But just said I would make my mind up in a week or so.

I kept getting calls - and they kept dropping their prices. The one I went with (purely because he seemed an OK guy, had done several neighbours and lived local, came in with a take it or leave it £4,400 and I said I would let him know at the weekend. In the meantime, Anglian phon ed me on the Saturday - and told them I was going with the guy who's just dropped his price to £4,400. With that, (and this was the manager - not a sales rep) offered me them for £4,200.

This was for 5 large double opening windows, Very large French doors and Front door and panel, plus 2 smaller opening windows in the extention.

Unfortunately for me, my neighbour said the people over the road had Anglian and wasnt happy with them. I went over to see them to ask - but they were tied up - and was invited over a bit latter. But my missus had made up her mind the "local guy" would get my money!

And he did.

It later transpired the people over the road were exceptionally happy with the work Anglian did. And late last year, my fitter did a runner to Spain with the Taxman chasing his sorry ass.

Bottom line. Good windows are only good with a good fitter. Dont ever say yes. Make them sweat. Tell them youve had a price that you are going to probably use - but havent decided 100%. Make them sweat - and the chances are, the window salesmen will eventually sell you something at a good price!

Cheers Guv!
I think I'll let em come and give me a quote, I will give them my mobile but not landline number and have them come when my husbands home. He doesn't stand for any of their salesmans patter nonsense.

Im almost sure thats who fitted my windows in council home im currently in. They worked quick and windows are fine. They didnt seal enough round the windows so i had to add bit more sealant but think it was a general council rush job with them, as they have had 1000's of homes to be done in a certain amount of time. But friendly and cleaned up their mess etc.

We had Anglian install our windows and front door a few years ago. Their products are, from my experience, very good and I'm very happy with them. But as others have said, NEVER accept their 1st quote....or second or third.

It's touch and go with their salesmen. Some are very good and listen, others try the hard sell, insist you take credit to get best prices and the usual "take it now or it's gone" line.

I would have them around for a quote but unless you want to spend at least 2 hours going through sales pitches, warn the person making the booking you only have x amount of time and not to bother coming if they insist you buy that same day. Make sure they note this and pass it on to the salesman - I threw out a salesman from them when I was looking at replacing facias as he tried the hard sell approach even though I warned both the booker and him on arrival not to try it.

Get comparable quotes and if you can do it, make a cash offer. We were quoted 3,500 for facias and soffits. Within 45 mins they were down at 1,200 but I insisted on 1k cash there and then.... but they wouldn't budge there.... which is ok, at least I knew we had reached the best possible price they could offer.

Last time I had them round to quote (3 times now) I told them the following:
1. They had 1 hour of my time
2. The first price they give must be their best price
3. I would not decide on the day and wanted the quote to stand for 2 weeks
4. Any hard sell attempt and they're out the door.

So, do your homework, get comparable quotes from reputable companies but don't fall for the "call the marketing manager here and now and get a better price" trick.

Good luck!

Had work done by anglian last march and the windows are good. the doors are a bit plasticy.
initial quote for 11 windows and 3 doors was £15k. i haggled with them over a three week period and ended up paying less than £5k.
they were installed to a very high standard.
if you want top quality go everest but anglian are ok.

Had absolutely awful problems with them a few years ago.......

They literally smashed all my old windows and frames out rather than taking them out properly. They then found the new upstairs frame was substantially too small so had to fit it temporarily and fit packing round it until they could get a new one made (good job it was too small and not the other way around having smashed the old frame out!).

They've been back about 9 times over the years so adjust the front door because of problems shutting it, including completely dismantling the door and frame and re-installing it on one occasion.

And £400 compensation after some duress from their part for the apauling work they'd done.

Would I recommend them to anyone else? It'll be a cold day in hell before it happens......

At least they came back and fixed it. My installer has fled the country. In the Summer, the front door wont close properly. The manufacturers say its not their problem - despite the fact they themselves came to my house and made adjustments to both the front and french doors.

As I said in the first post - everything with this is down to the correct measurements, then GOOD fitters. Obviously you were let down with yours - but like all of these companies, they employ some cowboys (at least until they are found out!!!!)

I believe Anglian are at least part franchised (ie the fitter pays for the advertising, use of logos and letterheads, and for any leads generated through Anglian)- so as stated before, it's a case of whether the fitter and his mates are competent. I know my parents got windows fitted by Anglian back in the early 80s, and the guy was so good not only are he and his family still very good friends of my parents, he has fitted windows and conservatories on every property my parents have owned since- and as they ran a property development business for many years. As ever, it's a case of finding workmen you can trust to stay on the job and complete it in the agreed timescale. I'm so glad i've got a 16th floor flat!

To be honest, it was the fear factor after seeing his site 18 months ago that put me off Anglian. I wished I hadn't see it now. (If his guestbook is still there - you will see me included!!!)

Whilst the management team dealing with this clearly didnt do the right thing, you have to also take into account the thousands of houses they install each week. It puts things into perspectve.

What particularly narks me is that I specifically picked them as a what I thought was a reputable national company rather than a cheaper quote from a local one, because I thought they'd do a better job. Since then I've had a local company fit patio doors for me and it was an all together different experience (and I bet a good 50% less than Anglian would have tried to charge me).

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. If you could see how cock-eyed the hinges are on my front door and the extent that they're straining it beggers belief.

And they wanted us to be a show home!!! :x:w00t:

He he... You should let them!!! And have people to have round for your recommendation!

So are they not going to fix it?
#14
They've been round 9 times to try and fix it.

At least we can now lock the door when the weather gets warmer which is more than we could do previously!

Have you not tried to get them to take it out completely an fix a new door that works properly? I know I would - and if the refused, I would pay to get another door fitted and then present them with the bill - followed by a small claims appearance if they refused.

Hate to burst your bubble i used to work for anglian and we say to everyone we wanted them to be a show home!

I'm not naive enough to thinks that's not the case.

Unfortunately when I took the £400 compansation I probably closed the door (so to speak) on an slim chance of getting the front door fixed. :-(

Never believe a word they say. I have worked in customer service for 15 years. I know how good companies deal with customers and Anglian IS NOT one of them. I cancelled a contract within their own contracts 14 day cooling off period, no windows were manufactured and only a rep visited to give quote/take measurements. They are trying to enforce I pay an additional 25% of total price in addition to a deposit I paid. Three months after cancelling and 6 letters later, some sent by Trading standards (who agree they are in breach of their own t & c's) I have had no response, apology or even spoken to anyone other than a secretary who passes me through to a "dead" line. I am now taking them to court for breach of contract. I only asked for a quote and allowed them to measure up, as I said their contract allows cancellation within 14 days of a survey if prices and works change ( which they did due to salesmen suggesting a different style and costs). Obviously, you may read this and think "that wont happen to me". As I work in customer service I felt I know my rights and how a good company should work and confident I would not be taken as a ride. You have been warned, if you have a complaint at all even before they start work- don't expect anything resembling respect as a customer or even decent human courtesy. Quite frankly, I cannot believe they are even in business in this day and age. Vile company, disgusting attitudes, untrustworthy, overpriced - why bother with these idiots when they are a lot of good local tradesmen that deserve local support?. Check out noroguetradershere.com for local council vetted and approved companies. Wish I had, as I would still have my cash and good blood pressure. You have been warned !!!!!!!!!

hi there,

we have just been ripped by them... gutted they made a mess on the inside of our house and they wont give compensation... and to top it all off they said they didnt care about our opinion as they had great customer service already and we wouldn't change that.... waste of money...

Take note of stressed 2312 above every word is TRUE. A salesman who tells you one thing and phones later saying another, surveyors who are rude and incapable of doing the job properly so when things go wrong its your fault and has to be remedied at your expense. In our case a cracked lintel and a driveway which had to be lowered and levelled by 4 feet which cost an additional £800.00. When the garage doors finally came three and a half months after ordering they were thrown up and we immediately complained to Anglian about the shoddy workmanship. They sent an "inspector" who had a quick look, grumbled about British workmen, and said someone would come to sort out the mess. Since 14 May until now we have made endless phone calls, letters, emails etc all with little effect. They sent the same useless fitter out a couple of times but he did as little as possible under my supervision. He just could not be bothered to do the job properly, the company had been paid for the job so why should he do anything further. There is no professionalism in this company, no respect for their customers and decent human courtesy quite unknown to them. Recorded delivery letters have been sent to Installation Managers etc but all ignored so we have contacted the Trading Standards. We doubt if these people have any real clout against this awful Anglian company but we are showing everyone we know this lousey, botched garage door job with its lop sided frame, ill fitting doors, missing bolts and screws, PLASTIC NOT GLASS windows (as original contract) and the slapped up cement. It has cost us almost £3,000.00 to learn what cowboys Anglian are - BE WARNED DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BY USING THIS AWFUL FIRM!

yup. wrote them off after seeing the salesman enter a suzuki liana and haggling them down from 15k to 3k.

thieves.

they told me i could pay a deposit now and i could fix the price for six months, and i could get deposit back up to that time if i dont want to go through with the installation unless i get a survey done. the salesman even said he could promise my deposit is safe and he would pay it himself if the company would not honour the aggreement, he even got his manager on the phone to confirm it, now they both deny it. now i have been bombarded with calls from the surveyor and they told me the deposit is already lost after 7 days. i am fuming and i will visit their office to speak to them face to face this week.
#23
Anglian windows is the worst company in the UK for any type of work. They use subcontractors and sales people are absolutely useless full of false promises. Wait till you come to now the installation team. By that time you realise it is too late to pull out from them. I have taken them to court to seek 50 k compensation. I wish I can publish article in national paper about Anglian homes and their practices.
#24
I have 2 viewpoints.

The good
I had my house completely double-glazed by them and was pleased. They are based locally to me and I made it clear to the salesman before he started that if he tried to insult me with the charade of quoting a high price and then discounting it, I would ask him to leave. He clearly took note and provided a very competitive quote (I already had some from local companies so knew what was good - he didn't know I had quotes either). They may have changed since, but Anglian's window frames had the lowest profile of all that we looked at, i.e. there was more glass and less frame therefore more aesthetically pleasing. They also offered a longer guarantee on their wood-look colour compared with others (10 years instead of 5). They fitted them cleanly and efficiently. One frame was slightly damaged so they offered a decent discount to leave it or would replace it. We chose to replace which happened within a couple of days, which was great. A few years later we had a problem with a handle which they replaced without fuss.

The bad
More recently we had a problem with the sill on the bay window going out of shape, it was still well within guarantee, but unfortunately I couldn't find the paperwork and they stated they couldn't find a record of the sale either and couldn't help unless we had the invoice details. I didn't feel comfortable that they were being honest. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I had to accept that I was partly to blame for not looking after the paperwork. By chance, shortly after this we had an unrelated marketing flyer inviting us "as a previous satisfied customer to get a quote for other home improvements". Bingo! I phoned the same after-sales number as before and recounted my previous conversation where they had no record of my window fitting. Again they couldn't find a record. I took joy in pulling the trump card out and asked why, if they had no record, how were they able to send me a marketing letter referring to previous work? There was a bit of of stuttering and fumbling and they did find my record with some unbelievable excuse. They totally lost my trust. A shame, because we were considering getting replacement doors from them. What idiots!

Hi, I work for Anglian Home Improvements and we are sorry to hear of this experience you have had. If you could email us with your address details we can investigate this further for you. Also, I am intrigued about the plastic windows comment you've made as Anglian only offer glass windows. If you could drop me an email, we would love to look into this. The email address is [email protected]

In regards to issues with any installations, customer services will be able to help and advise you all. Alternatively, you can email me to investigate further. We make nearly 5,000 windows per week, and as we say in the company 'Raising the Standard' this is something we strive to do, but every now and then we may make a mistake. This doesn't mean we don't try to rectify issues as we want to continue raising the standards.

Many thanks

Louie (Online & Social Media Executive)

Anglian are taking me to court for £4000 because whilst I was building my house I asked for a quote, the sakes guy finally left after 4 hours when he got me to sign telling me that the £50 I put down holds the price and if I don't want them that's all I lose. Trusting person that I am signed, totally stupid not reading the small print but believing this man.
Still not got my house built and run out of money I had to cancell my order because they keep hassling me.
Now they say they want this large amount for nothing but the fact I had a quote! Can anyone help as I will now have to get a solicitor. They also say they can take the money because I was going to get a credit agreement and they have my bank details. Please help anyone I am going out of my mind with worry.

Had them to replace roof trim.
Website quote 'unlike other companies, we don't just hide the problem of old and tired roof trim by cloaking it. We eliminate it completely by removing the old material, making good behind and then fitting new PVC'.
When the fitters encountered damaged timber on the gable end, they just left and said you'll need to get that fixed. Later, after emergency roof and scaffolding costs, I asked the roofer to check the rest of what Anglian had done. He discovered that they had capped not replaced the soffits and had ignored bad timber and decayed felt. Tiles had also been loosened by the capping process and not been re-cemented in. I have not signed the satisfaction note but the regional depot are threatening to pass me on to a third party debt collection agency. There appears to be no central point of contact - all mails and emails are just bounced over to the region.
Are the regions just franchises now?

Question: Because they advertise replacement and I asked the salesman repeatedly whether they made good underneath, - he said yes -of course-, have they committed fraud by just capping over rotten timber?
#28
Sounds like our story.

Hi Louie on Anglian help. We have emailed you the full details of Anglian fitters shoddy workmanship, also our "Anglian Disaster Diary" as requested.

If contact with you is the same as all others at Anglian we expect no further help or recognition of our complaint and probably a whitewash of your company.

THE GARAGE DOORS ARE DEFINITELY PLASTIC NOT GLASS - COME AND HAVE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF!!!
#30
Had Anglian windows and doors 6 years ago. Purchased composite door where varnish is peeling off after 6 years. Apparently if you want to replace a door on the SOUTH facing part of the house only go for a WHITE composite, all other colours will peel in the sun! We obviously want our peeling composite door completely replaced by a white one. Under our 10 year guarantee Anglian will repair or replace but they have obviously taken the cheaper option to repaint the varnish on the door despite our complaining that this is not what we want. Please note all composite doors are now only guaranteed for 2 years. There will be no guarantee the repaint job if done properly will last longer than another 6 years in which case our guarantee would have expired. If we had wanted to repaint a door approx every 6 years we might as well as kept our wooden one. The whole idea was to get a door that was maintenance free. We were thinking of getting a drive quote from Anglian but definitely not now and will not hesitate to inform people of who not to use and why.
#31
Sorry to hear your story but not surprised with this firm. We have shown and told many people of our experience with Anglian and the garage doors, and many have taken our advice and used other companies. So far I think we have sent the other companies about £3,000 business.
We recently had a large window replaced by Safestyle UK and were delighted with the service we received. Everything went to plan, the installation was done by qualified fitters and took only a couple of hours. All mess was removed from the site and we have a lovely double glazed window overlooking the garden. We are very pleased with Safestyle UK's work and would certainly consider using them again should the need arise.
Showing your friends Anglian's shoddy product, relating your experience to them and suggesting they find a better company is a great favour to your friends and it denies work to Anglian and more unhappy customers.

I have used Aglian to extend my conservatory in August 2012, they did the work and the conservatory has had a leak ever since, i have had about 20 engineer calls and the whole process has become a comedy show now, they have no idea what is going on, to the point when the last engineers came out they asked me if i knew why they had been sent out. The CS is complete joke, people never return calls and Peter Goering at the West Midlands branch could not be a more incompetent individual, stay well away

Sirs,

We had Anglian Windows installed throughout our house ( 8 Windows ) since approx. 1994...

They are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for....

I can honestly say we have never had any trouble with the windows, up to date...

Thanks,

I had Anglian round to replace 3 small leaded double glazed window I also got another quote from a different company they rang and I told them I was going with the other guy as he was cheaper and they said they would match his price and then they kept ringing me . I had Anglian at my last house and they were fine but not sure whose in charge now as they are terrible. Put the order in beginning of August 2013 as having other work done sort of forgot about them until October rang to be told my window would be with them 21st October and be fitted 24th October but at 5.45pm on 23rd October a guy told me they had not arrived I was not happy and told him so on Friday 25th was surprised to get a call saying they had picked my windows up and could they fit them on Sunday the 27th I said no because was going to my mums he said that the fitter wanted to work so I gave in because then the scaffolding they had fitted could come down. On Sunday was up early the fitter arrived and told me the windows were not correct but somebody would ring me well waited till Friday and gave in and rang spoke to a lady who said she would ring me back but no call. Does this company have any idea on how to run a business they have no idea of manners I was bought up that manners cost nothing and there customers service is very bad would like to cancel but having read the other people I don't think I would get my deposit back so I will just have to wait.
#36
Had Anglian - fitters great, product ok - after service????? Non existent! Have had to escalate problem with H/O to get the installing service dept to even ring back. Even though product is ok - would NEVER use again.
#37
Louie from Anglian never contacted us again or visited to see the PLASTIC WINDOWS.

We had a letter from the Customer Care Manager Barry R Chilvers when we sent our useless Guarantee Registration form back to Anglian with copies of all of the previous complaints and a copy of our Anglian Disaster Diary. He tendered sincere apologies on behalf of the Directors, said he had contacted Doug Burriss the West Senior Installations Manager "who will investigate this matter immediately" but of course we have heard NOTHING as expected.

He quoted a reference number 462552 to keep track of all further action taken. It sounds good but when no further action is taken it is only to keep customer quiet. Be warned however much you complain this company has no decent back up service, they will not arrange for a shoddy job to be done properly. WE WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND CONSTANTLY WARN OTHERS OF THEIR POOR PRODUCTS AND BAD WORKMANSHIP.
#38
HI all i had anglian windows installed in my house but since then they ring me up about once a week to try and sell me windows so after I warned them not to pester me I made appointment for a quote, The salesman turned up and said your windows look new to which i replayed they are two years old and why they keep ringing me, he was not happy when he left and asked me not to make appointments. I will be making another appointment again as they keep ringing me. If you do not want calls every week then avoid the company.
#39
Feeling ripped off they have been round several times to fix front door and every time I've showed them the big gap between the window and the wall they fob me off with is ment to be like that NEVER is it the windows drafty and leaving that gap means rain can get in to the cavity wall In fact when the engineer was here the other day I rang the other half to come back when hubby pulled up he jumped in the van n drove of!
The people who installed them were ignorant they ruined all paint work and rubbed there dirty hands all down the ceiling on my stairs I too rang up to tell customer services only to be told has nothing to do with them.
I'm next taking pics and complaining in writing I hAve two children in this house one of which is 6wks if thinking off having this company please please think very hard the deal we got seemed too good to be true and it definatly was.
#40
It seems to us you are quite lucky to get anyone out from Anglian. Our garage doors have still not been fitted properly and now they do not close together and the frame is sagging. We have been ignored by these people for so long that perhaps they are waiting until it finally collapses to try to sell us a new one!!!

Just show people their work, tell your story and it saves others much upset and wasting their money on Anglian products.
